Role Description
We are looking for a Technical Architect to define and evolve the core architecture behind Pikl’s platforms, products, and partner integrations.
This role is both strategic and hands-on. You will design scalable systems, establish engineering best practices, and guide high-impact technical decisions, while collaborating closely with product and insurance experts to turn complex requirements into elegant, maintainable solutions.
You Will:
- Lead architecture and design for core business platforms, APIs, micro-services, and data workflows.Collaborate with teams to ensure systems are scalable, reliable, and maintainable.
- Establish design patterns, engineering standards, and architectural guardrails. Help create a foundation for consistent development practices.
- Work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and insurance stakeholders. Turn complex requirements into actionable solutions.
- Make smart build versus buy decisions. Evaluate third-party tools, platforms, and data integrations for optimal outcomes.

- Expertise in design patterns, event-driven or micro-service architecture, or domain-driven design. Able to apply best practices to complex systems.
- Experience with secure, compliant systems. Background in fintech, insurtech, or regulated industries is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills. Able to translate between business and engineering contexts.
- Collaborative mindset. Comfortable leading technical efforts across multiple teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience with insurance, policy administration, claims, or financial services platforms. Familiarity with regulated systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with AWS, infrastructure-as-code, or CI/CD pipelines. Hands-on cloud experience is desirable.
- Background in integrations, API platforms, or workflow orchestration. Experience building partner-connected systems is beneficial.
- Interest in building systems for international scale and modular product expansion. Ability to design systems that can grow with the business.
We Welcome Non-Traditional Candidates
Not everyone follows the same path, and we believe that is a strength. Maybe you did not earn a traditional Computer Science degree. Maybe you transitioned into engineering from another field. Maybe you built your skills through open-source contributions, bootcamps, startups, or sheer curiosity and persistence.
If you have designed resilient systems, led technical decisions, or built things people rely on, we want to hear your story regardless of how you got here.
If you are unsure whether you meet every qualification, do not self-select out. Talent and impact come from many backgrounds, and we are more interested in your ability to think, architect, and lead than in checking every conventional box.

Pikl is on a mission to enable the growth of digital marketplaces, starting with vacation rentals. We design and deliver insurance-enabled solutions that help platforms, property managers and owners unlock new revenue and deliver better customer experiences.
Founded in 2016, we began by protecting individual hosts and homeowners with specialist holiday-let cover. That experience now powers our insurance-enabled products, which increase participation, lift conversion and drive revenue across the marketplace value chain: platforms, homeowners and guests.
With offices in Norwich and London, and plans for international expansion, we work with some of the most recognized brands in travel as well as major insurance aggregators.

People. We put people first, building relationships rooted in empathy and trust. We respect, include, and learn from one another. We celebrate progress.
