Pike Road Schools Job Description for General Ledger Staff Accountant
JOB GOAL: Assist in the administration of the business affairs of Pike Road Schools.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, finance, business administration or a related area, preferred.
Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No
Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of and practices of accounting.
Demonstrated knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations regarding education/government agency accounting.
Knowledge of technological financial systems involving financial software systems (spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and general accounting, etc.)
Extensive working knowledge of general office software including spreadsheets, word processing, flowcharts, and databases.
Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No
Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.
Ability to meet deadlines, schedule tasks, and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate support for the Pike Road Schools Mission, Vision, and Beliefs.
Serve as the local school liaison by assisting and directing the local school bookkeepers and principals in the areas of local school finance.
Conduct an annual internal audit of each local school.
Train new local school bookkeepers.
Provide general ledger assistance to the CSFO.
Verify program budget monthly
Reconcile bank statements monthly.
Prepare monthly reimbursement claims.
Responsible for inventory control including annual physical inventories of fixed assets.
Reconcile capital outlay expenditures to general ledger inventory control accounts.
Maintain a complete and systematic set of records for all inventory, assets, and surplus equipment, including transfers and/or disposals of assets.
Serve as purchasing/procurement agent
Manage compliance of purchases by competitive bidding, informal quotations, and negotiation in compliance with board policy.
Prepare bid documents, including notice to bidders, instructions to bidders, specifications and form of proposal
Develop and maintain appropriate records such as bid documents and vendor bid list
Assist with bid openings, tabulations, and analysis.
Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
Report potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
Respond to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
Maintain and submit reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
Properly use and care for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of equipment and inventory.
Serve as needed on committees, task forces, or other representative bodies to assist with planning, decision-making, or reporting for the school system.
Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of purchasing/procedurement and local school financial operations.
Interpret management policies and operating practices as necessary to guide local school bookkeepers.
Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
Completes special projects as assigned.
Assists Chief Financial Officer as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EVALUATION: Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Pike Road Board of Education policy on evaluation of personnel.
