The Pike County Health Department is seeking a HANDS Specialist I to join our Health Access Nurturing Development Services (HANDS) program. This position works directly with expectant and new parents to assess family needs, connect families with available resources, and help determine eligibility for early childhood education and family support services.

The HANDS Specialist will conduct parent assessments and outreach activities in family homes, community settings, and the health department office. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys working with families, building connections within the community, and helping parents access services and resources that support healthy child development.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct Parent Visit Assessments/Surveys with expectant and new parents.
  • Review prenatal, birth, clinic, and other applicable records prior to completing assessments.
  • Assess family needs and determine eligibility for HANDS and other early childhood or family support services.
  • Interview and educate parents in their homes or other community settings.
  • Help families identify and access appropriate community resources, referrals, education, and nutritional support.
  • Provide outreach and information related to healthy child development and available family services.
  • Develop and distribute informational materials in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including service logs, schedules, charting, reports, and program records.
  • Review records and reports for compliance with HANDS program requirements and applicable state and federal guidelines.
  • Interpret and follow program policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Assist with monitoring and implementing changes to program requirements.
  • Conduct home visits as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to travel to family homes and other locations throughout the community as part of regular job duties.
  • Employees in this classification must obtain and maintain any credentials required for the position under applicable HANDS program regulations.
  • Employment is subject to required background screening and drug testing in accordance with agency policy.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a current, active license in Social Work or Nursing and meet one of the following education requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Nursing, Early Childhood Education, Human Services, or a closely related field; or
  • Associate degree in Nursing with at least two years of experience.

Pay: $17.04 - $21.19 per hour
