Duties
- Record, classify, and reconcile financial transactions using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes to ensure timely payments and collections.
- Prepare and post journal entries accurately, including debits & credits, to maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations regularly to verify account accuracy.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliation and account analysis to identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
- Assist with payroll processing and related tax filings, ensuring compliance with governmental regulations.
- Support budgeting activities by tracking expenses against forecasts and preparing financial reports as needed.
- Maintain detailed records of all financial transactions in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other relevant standards.
- Generate financial reports including profit & loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements for management review.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations by preparing necessary documentation and supporting audits when required.
- Handle governmental accounting tasks related to grants or public funding if applicable.
- Perform account analysis to monitor account activity, identify trends, and recommend improvements for bookkeeping procedures.
- Utilize technical accounting knowledge for complex transactions or special projects requiring detailed analysis or adjustments.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles, preferably within corporate or non-profit settings.
- Strong proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Quicken, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms; experience with multiple systems is a plus.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles including GAAP, double entry bookkeeping, journal entries, debits & credits, and general ledger accounting.
- Familiarity with governmental accounting standards and tax experience is desirable.
- Excellent skills in bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, account analysis, and financial report writing.
- Ability to perform 10 key typing efficiently for data entry tasks.
- Knowledge of payroll processing procedures and related tax requirements.
- Strong attention to detail coupled with analytical thinking skills for accurate account analysis and problem-solving.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate across teams and prepare clear financial documentation.
