You will play an integral role in guiding the Residential Team to meet its mission to fairly and efficiently value property throughout Pierce County for tax purposes. You will coordinate a very good team of both young and experienced members. In turn, you will get feedback and direction from your supervisor.

Work is primarily in the office with some field work. The team takes a technology-first approach in the inspection process by reviewing and entering data remotely.

The Assessor-Treasurer's Office is responsible for the mass appraisal of real and personal property in Pierce County for purposes of assessing property taxes. Our mission is to fairly and efficiently value property and collect revenue to fund public services throughout Pierce County. How To Be Successful In The Role

This position requires you to work quickly and efficiently while making sound daily decisions and judgments. The ability to stay organized, interact with the public, and work independently in a fast-paced work environment will help you succeed in this role. Additionally, previous experience in computer applications such as SPSS, Excel, SQL, R, and Python is preferred.

Your Future In This Role

The Assessor-Treasurer’s office is dedicated to your success in leading residential appraisers to become more adept at physical inspections, new construction, and other specialized work. You will have additional training/educational opportunities through organizations, such as the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), the Department of Revenue (DOR), and the Washington State Association of County Assessors (WSACA). Your work willdirectly impact your community, and it offers a great foundation for future positions within the Assessor Treasurer's Office and Pierce County.

Core Daily Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Mass Appraisal of properties that may include: Residential, Commercial, and/or Personal Property.
  • Selects and applies any combination of complex appraisal techniques applicable and necessary to the accuracy and defensible determination of property values.
  • Performs extensive research and analysis of sales.
  • Assists and participates in developing appraisal procedures, organizing, and completing special appraisal projects.
  • Develops, tests, and implements the Mass Appraisal models.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
  • Three or more years experience as a Real or Personal Property Appraiser including the appraisal of more complex properties and accreditation by the State Department of Revenue as a Real Property Appraiser is required.
  • This position will be assigned to the Statistical section, must have three years of directly related real property assessment, property sales analysis, statistical analysis, or related work.
  • A valid Driver's License is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College-level coursework or experience in statistical analysis is highly desired.
  • Experience with SPSS, SQL, R, and Python is preferred.
