Community Outreach & Peer Recovery Support Specialist

Pierce County Alliance is seeking compassionate, motivated, and community-focused individuals to join our team in supporting our clients involved in behavioral health recovery, substance use recovery, reentry services, and community-based support programs.

This position provides outreach, engagement, peer support, care coordination, case management, and resource navigation services to individuals facing challenges related to mental health, substance use disorders, incarceration reentry, and other life barriers. Referrals may come from hospitals, behavioral health providers, law enforcement, courts, correctional facilities, emergency medical services, community organizations, and self-referrals.

The job includes interfacing with a client population having criminal justice, mental health and/or chemical dependency involvement. These individuals can, at times, have antagonistic or hostile tendencies.

Essential Responsibilities

• Conduct outreach and engagement services in the community, hospitals, correctional settings, and other approved locations.
• Provide peer support, encouragement, advocacy, and recovery-oriented services.
• Assist participants in identifying goals and developing plans to improve overall wellness and stability.
• Connect and coordinate individuals with community resources, including behavioral health treatment, housing, employment, education, healthcare, transportation, and basic needs supports.
• Provide intensive case management and follow-up services as appropriate.
• Help participants strengthen independent living, coping, problem-solving, and community adjustment skills.
• Maintain accurate and timely case notes, reports, program records, and required documentation.
• Participate in program training, staff meetings, and team coordination activities.
• Respond professionally to crisis situations and communicate effectively with community partners.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid Washington State driver's license and ability to travel.
• Reliable vehicle, acceptable driving record, and proof of required insurance.
• Ability to pass Washington State Patrol criminal background check and other program-specific background requirements.
• Ability to pass monitored urinalysis testing.
• Must have no history of alcohol or other drug misuse for a period of three years immediately prior to the time of employment.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Washington State Certified Peer Support Specialist credential.
• Additional education and experience are preferred.
• Lived experience with mental health recovery, substance use recovery, criminal justice involvement, or reentry services.
• Experience providing peer support, case management, outreach, behavioral health services, or community-based social services.
• Knowledge of behavioral health systems, substance use and mental health treatment services, recovery support services, and community resources.
• Familiarity with law enforcement, correctional systems, courts, and the criminal justice system.
• Experience working with individuals with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, and justice-involved populations.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
