The Engineer II, Electrical Design position will assist in the complete design, layout and estimating of all types of light to medium commercial and industrial electrical projects with some supervision of tasks. Working in tandem with the Senior Electrical Design Engineer, the candidate in this role will help analyze blueprints and scope narratives to determine the complete electrical needs of various sizes and types of projects.
The Electrical Design Engineer will communicate and work closely with the Project Managers, Field Supervisors, Vendor Partners and other experts within the Company as needed to coordinate the layout of electrical components as required for the projects. Additionally, coordination may be required with other Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) Trade Partners and General Contractors, with oversight. Work also requires occasional 2D drafting, detailing, and other miscellaneous document management and record keeping. This role will provide construction services, CAD and modeling, budgets, layouts. You may be called upon to direct and assist other team estimators, including field craftsmen who, from time to time, may help estimate from the field.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Electrical Design and Technical Responsibilities:
- Review drawings, specifications, and RFP documents to determine project scope and requirements to develop accurate, code-compliant, and constructible designs.
- Attend pre‑bid and coordination meetings as needed.
- Identify scope gaps, inconsistencies, and constructability concerns.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for conduit, wire, devices, lighting, equipment, and low‑voltage/specialty systems.
- Solicit, organize, and evaluate vendor pricing for lighting, gear, generators, controls, and specialty equipment.
- Request and track subcontractor pricing for fire alarm, telecom, security, and low‑voltage systems.
- Perform electrical calculations (e.g., service sizing, feeders, lighting, load, power, heat loss, and UPS) to support system design and compliance.
- Prepare proposal documents including scope notes, inclusions/exclusions, clarifications, and alternates.
- Submit bids and present estimate breakdowns to project managers.
- Use tools such as Accubid, Trimble LiveCount, and Bluebeam.
- Prepare BOMs, labor summaries, cost breakdowns, and scope sheets.
- Compare quotes for completeness, compliance, and accuracy.
- Analyze design choices for cost impact and develop cost‑saving alternatives.
- Assist in evaluating fixture packages, equipment options, and layout strategies.
- Contribute to conceptual and early‑stage budgets using partial designs or narratives.
- Participate in ongoing training in National Electrical Code, commercial building and lighting systems, design/build workflows, and estimating methods.
- Share knowledge and expertise by training and mentoring peers on specific tasks or tools
- Collaborate with CAD operators, fellow designers, and engineers to coordinate and align design outputs with project needs
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field OR equivalent combination of experience and education
- 2–5 years of direct experience in Electrical Design. Experience with Estimating and Construction preferred
- Positive safety attitude and personal integrity – both are non-negotiable
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams)
- Practical experience of panel fabrication basics, component layout concepts, and basic electrical connectivity
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
- Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
