Position Purpose:
The Biology Lab Manager plays a key role in supporting laboratory instruction within the Biological Sciences programs at PVCC. This position ensures that students experience high-quality, safe, and well-organized laboratory environments in Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Microbiology courses. The Biology Lab Manager collaborates with faculty, maintains lab safety standards, manages budgets and inventories, and provides support for adjunct instructors and offsite teaching locations.
- Prepare and clean up Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Microbiology laboratories.
- Maintain laboratory safety manuals and ensure compliance with OSHA and institutional safety requirements.
- Maintain inventory and procure supplies and equipment for all Biology-related labs.
- Manage laboratory budgets in collaboration with the Dean of Health and Life Sciences.
- Serve as the Biology Lab Safety Officer.
- Maintain and coordinate maintenance or repair of laboratory equipment.
- Provide support and serve as a resource for full-time and adjunct biology faculty.
- Coordinate laboratory support for offsite instructional locations, including correctional facilities.
- Support capstone biology projects and student research.
- Ensure proper labeling, handling, and disposal of laboratory waste materials.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Hands-on laboratory experience in Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, or a related discipline.
- Experience with daily use and maintenance of common laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge of OSHA laboratory safety protocols, personal protective equipment, and waste disposal requirements.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or a closely related field.
- Previous experience in laboratory management in academic or industrial settings.
- Knowledge of Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) practices and standards.
- Experience maintaining laboratory safety documentation.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development in laboratory sciences or management.
- Experience providing instructional or operational support in higher education laboratory settings.
