Position Summary

Piedmont Steel Company, LLC (PSC) is seeking an experienced Bilingual Construction Safety Coordinator for immediate hire to support and oversee safety operations on structural steel erection projects throughout the Southeastern United States.

This is a field-based safety position requiring extensive travel to active construction projects. Current and upcoming work is concentrated in Northern Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and surrounding states.

This is not an entry-level or trainee position. PSC is seeking a seasoned construction safety professional capable of independently managing field safety, working directly with General Contractors and project leadership, identifying and correcting hazards, enforcing safety requirements, and providing practical leadership to our field workforce.

Candidates must have real-world construction experience and a strong understanding of the hazards associated with structural steel erection, cranes, rigging, decking, welding, connecting, fall protection, material handling, aerial lifts, and heavy equipment, along with a working knowledge of OSHA Subpart R.

Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.

Primary Responsibilities

Field Safety Management

• Provide hands-on safety leadership on active structural steel erection projects.
• Conduct routine and unannounced safety inspections.
• Identify unsafe acts, conditions, and developing hazards before they result in an incident.
• Take immediate action when serious safety concerns are identified, including stopping unsafe work when necessary.
• Work directly with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field employees to implement corrective actions.
• Coach and train employees on proper work practices.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, customer, project-specific, and PSC safety requirements.
• Participate in and lead incident and near-miss investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Track corrective actions through completion.
• Promote accountability while maintaining productive working relationships with field leadership and employees.
• Represent PSC professionally in meetings and discussions with General Contractors, customers, and other project safety personnel.

Structural Steel Safety

Provide safety oversight for operations including:

• Structural steel erection and OSHA Subpart R requirements
• Crane operations and critical lifts
• Rigging and hoisting
• Connecting and bolting
• Decking operations
• Welding and hot work
• Fall protection systems
• Safety cables, lifelines, anchors, and access
• Aerial lifts and forklifts
• Material staging and handling
• Controlled access areas
• Leading-edge work
• Site access and housekeeping

Site Support

• Work on active projects throughout PSC's operating territory.
• Provide safety leadership during project mobilization and startup.
• Support projects during high-risk or critical operations.
• Assist project leadership with project-specific safety planning.
• Evaluate field safety performance and identify recurring issues or areas requiring additional training.
• Provide additional safety oversight where project conditions or customer requirements demand it.

Documentation & Compliance

Maintain and audit required safety documentation, including:

• Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
• Pre-Task Plans
• Toolbox Talks
• Daily Safety Briefings
• Site Orientation Records
• Equipment Inspection Logs
• Crane Documentation
• Forklift and Aerial Lift Inspections
• Rigging Inspection Documentation
• Incident and Near-Miss Reports
• Corrective Action Reports
• Training and Certification Records

The Safety Coordinator will be expected to ensure documentation is accurate, complete, current, and reflective of actual field conditions—not simply paperwork completed for compliance purposes.

Training & Employee Qualifications

Monitor employee training and certifications, including:

• OSHA training
• Fall Protection
• Aerial Lift / MEWP
• Forklift
• Signal Person
• Qualified Rigger
• Crane-related requirements
• Silica Awareness
• Fire Watch
• First Aid / CPR
• Customer-specific training and orientations

Maintain accurate records and coordinate refresher or additional training when required.

Equipment & PPE

Conduct field inspections to verify:

• PPE inspections are completed and documented.
• Fall protection equipment is compliant and serviceable.
• Safety cables, anchors, and lifelines are properly installed and maintained.
• Ladders and access equipment are acceptable.
• Rigging inspections are current and defective rigging is immediately removed from service.
• Required crane, forklift, aerial lift, welding equipment, generator, and other equipment inspections are completed.
• Defective or unsafe equipment is immediately removed from service.

Required Qualifications

• Fluent English and Spanish communication skills.
• Minimum 5 years of construction safety and/or structural steel erection experience.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage safety on active construction projects.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards.
• Working knowledge of OSHA Subpart R – Steel Erection.
• Strong understanding of fall protection, cranes, rigging, aerial lifts, and high-risk construction activities.
• Ability to effectively communicate with both craft employees and senior project/GC management.
• Strong leadership and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability and willingness to enforce safety requirements when challenged.
• Strong written documentation and reporting skills.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work at heights and safely access active construction sites.
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively.

Significant structural steel field experience will be strongly considered even when a candidate does not hold every preferred certification listed above.

Travel & Schedule Requirements

Full-time travel is required.

PSC's projects are located throughout the Southeastern United States, with a current concentration of work in North Carolina and Northern Virginia.
