Job Title - WIC and Breastfeeding Programs Manager

About Position: The WIC Nutritionist will help support a team of fellow Nutritionists, Administrative Assistants and Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, who collectively serve as the primary source of nutrition and lactation support to a vibrant and diverse local community. The WIC & Breastfeeding Program Manager is accountable for the administrative operations of the WIC Program including Crossroads IT, auditing WIC staff and breastfeeding program. Performs a variety of responsible tasks that include collaboration and technical resources to the WIC staff. Ensures program quality control and that the work of the department is consistent with the policies and the mission of PHS. Responsible for developing, writing and maintaining local agency policies that align with NC WIC Program requirements. Supports supervision of leadership teams within the WIC department. Provides supervision and direct support to the WIC Assistant Manager. Supports embedded WIC services within other health center departments as needed. Involved with development and implementation of nutrition and lactation related projects which impact WIC participant health outcomes/improvement both internally and with external community partners.

Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 5:00pm

  • Travel: As needed

Duties/ Responsibilities -

  • Serves as an agency liaison to the NC WIC Program; presenting reports as needed, assuring program integrity through programmatic auditing both locally and at state level, and completion of contract agreements.
  • Conducts quarterly staff meetings, nutritionists, supervisor meetings and trainings as required by WIC Policy
  • Organizes required and additional outreach efforts for the WIC/Nutrition Program.
  • Assists in writing and organizing grant efforts to further the WIC and Nutrition Services program.
  • Assists in program development in the area of WIC within PHS.
  • Places annual order of breastfeeding supplies with the State WIC Agency
  • Participates in program audits, CAP development, local agency self-assessments and performance
  • reviews conducted by the State WIC Agency
  • Establish and maintain collaborative community partnerships, and participates in community breastfeeding
  • coalition meetings
  • Assesses the training needs of the staff and provides appropriate training opportunities.
  • Provides representation to support the director with stakeholders to further strengthen relationships and develop the WIC program within PHS and in the community.
  • Involved in hiring, evaluation, auditing and performance improvement plans within the department.
  • Involvement in the development and support of revenue generation through clinical interactions and grant writing efforts, reporting and evaluation. Responsible for meeting program goals set by the state WIC association and PHS.
  • Supports and monitors program outreach within the entire department.
  • Responsible for assigning float staff to cover clinics and ensuring clinic coverage for vacations and other absences due to illness, trainings or meetings. Provides direct patient care as a nutritionist in WIC clinics as needed.
  • Ensures staff participation in health center interdisciplinary team meetings, huddles, and team-based care initiatives.

Qualifications -

Education: Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education - approved Didactic Program in Dietetics or Dietetic Technician; Registered with the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education with a Bachelor’s degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university; or a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university; or a Master’s of Public Health and IBCLC certified.

Required

  • Must complete North Carolina Lactation Educator Program Certification and all units of the Breastfeeding Supplies Competency Training within 1 year of hire.
  • Requires frequent sitting for long periods, operation of standard office machines and computer. May require lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Requires use of office equipment, such as computer terminals, telephones or copiers.
  • Requires normal vision range.
  • Work is performed in an office, hospital, and home environment and exposes worker to potential environmental and health contaminants via contact with staff and clients.
  • Some travel will be required for this position.
  • Requires valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

Preferred

  • Must also meet qualifications of Designated Breastfeeding Expert (DBE). IBCLC Certification, preferred.
  • Minimum two years of public health experience and two years supervisory experience preferred.
  • English/Spanish bilingual preferred.

Current/valid License: IBCLC, Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.

Immunizations: All PHS required immunizations

Pay Range - $59,050 - $79,358
