Part-time / Full-Time | $13–$14 per hour. *Based on 90 day evaluation period*
Piedmont Agency on Aging is looking for a highly organized, dependable and self-motivated person to join our team as an Administrative Assistant to the CEO / Development Assistant.
This is a position for someone who enjoys variety, learns quickly, takes initiative and can work independently. The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO and leadership team and will have the opportunity to learn and grow in nonprofit administration, grants, fundraising, communications and special projects.
This is not simply a traditional office assistant position. We are looking for someone who can become a trusted member of our team and gradually take ownership of projects and responsibilities.
What We Need
We need someone who is:
- Extremely organized and detail-oriented
- Dependable and trustworthy
- A strong writer and communicator
- Comfortable working with numbers and spreadsheets
- Comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Able to learn new computer programs and technology
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Comfortable asking questions and finding answers
- Professional when communicating with staff, community partners and the public
- Someone who takes initiative rather than waiting to be told what to do
You do not have to know how to do everything when you walk through the door. We are looking for someone who is willing and able to learn.
Responsibilities
The position will begin with a strong administrative focus and, for the right individual, will grow to include additional development, grant and communications responsibilities.
Responsibilities may include:
- Providing administrative support to the CEO
- Organizing files, information and documents
- Tracking deadlines, projects and follow-up items
- Preparing correspondence, reports and other documents
- Assisting with spreadsheets, financial tracking and basic budget information
- Taking meeting notes and assisting with meeting preparation
- Researching information and funding opportunities
- Assisting with grant applications and grant reports
- Helping track grant deadlines and requirements
- Assisting with donor correspondence and fundraising activities
- Creating and scheduling social-media content

- Maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately
- Performing other duties and projects as assigned
Experience
Previous experience in all of these areas is not required.
Experience in any of the following would be helpful:
- Administrative or executive assistance
- Nonprofit organizations
- Grant writing or grant administration
- Fundraising or development
- Bookkeeping, accounting or financial administration
- Social media or communications
- Office management
- Customer service or community relations
A strong candidate with the right organizational, writing and computer skills may be considered even without previous nonprofit or grant-writing experience.
What We Value Most
We are looking for someone who can learn, grow and eventually take ownership of responsibilities.
If you are the person who hears, "I need this done," and thinks, "I'll figure out how to get it done," you may be the person we're looking for.
You should be comfortable working without someone standing over your shoulder. You should also be comfortable asking for clarification when you need it and keeping your supervisor informed about progress and deadlines.
