What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher position at Piece by Piece Education Program?
Piece by Piece Education Program is a small, individualized education program created specifically for children and adolescents with disabilities. We provide a supportive, structured environment where students can work on academics, life skills, independence, and individualized educational goals while learning at their own pace.
We are looking for a caring, dependable, and experienced educator who genuinely enjoys working with children with special needs and wants to be part of a small program where relationships matter.
What you’ll do:
- Provide individualized academic support based on each student’s abilities and learning needs
- Assist students with homeschool-based coursework and educational activities
- Incorporate hands-on learning and real-life activities into the educational day
- Support development of independence and practical life skills
- Create a safe, structured, positive, and encouraging learning environment
- Use appropriate strategies to support students with autism and other developmental disabilities
- Provide guidance and support with transitions, routines, and classroom expectations
- Communicate professionally with parents and program leadership regarding student progress and needs
- Work collaboratively with other staff to support the students as a team
- Help create an environment where students feel safe, accepted, and successful
What we’re looking for:
- Experience working with children or adolescents with disabilities
- Experience with autism and/or developmental disabilities strongly preferred
- Special education teaching experience preferred
- A degree in education, special education, psychology, or a related field is preferred but not required for the right candidate
- Patience, flexibility, reliability, and strong communication skills
- Ability to remain calm and supportive when working with challenging behaviors or unexpected situations
- A genuine passion for helping children with special needs learn and grow
- Ability to work independently while also being a strong team member
- Must be dependable and able to commit to the Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule

Requirements:
- Relevant experience working with individuals with disabilities
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to pass a background check
- CPR/AED certification preferred
- References required
Schedule:Monday, Wednesday & Friday 7:45 AM–3:00 PM
Employment:Part-time W-2 position
Growth Opportunity: As Piece by Piece grows, we anticipate expanding our program and increasing staff hours. This position has the potential to grow into additional hours and potentially a full-time position as enrollment increases.
