What are the responsibilities and job description for the Upstream Investment Banking GIS Specialist position at Pickering Energy Partners?
Upstream Investment Banking GIS Specialist
Advisory | Pickering Energy Partners
Position Description
Pickering Energy Partners (PEP) is a premier energy-focused financial services platform headquartered in Houston. With decades of experience across the energy value chain, PEP integrates Investments, Research, Capital Markets, and Investment Banking to provide world-class strategic advice and long-term value for our clients.
We are seeking a dedicated Investment Banking GIS Specialist to support our Upstream practice, with additional involvement in midstream and oilfield services. In this role, you will manage workstreams across a diverse range of transactions including corporate mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, initial public offerings, equity capital markets, and private capital raises.
We trade the rigid hierarchy of traditional banks for a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment. You will earn substantial responsibility early on, working directly alongside senior leadership and managing a dedicated team to navigate the complex issues facing the global energy businesses today.
Primary Responsibilities
· Build maps and geospatial visuals for client-facing materials including pitch books, executive summaries, and management presentations
· Run spatial analyses covering acreage positions, well and lease inventories, unit configurations, permit activity, well spacing, and offset operator positioning across active US basins
· Source, integrate, and QC geospatial data from public registries (RRC, BOEM, FERC, EIA, USGS, and state agency portals) and commercial platforms (Enverus/PRISM, Novi Labs, FactSet) into clean, reliable, and working datasets
· Review and validate client and third-party shapefiles as part of technical due diligence, reconciling spatial data against information provided in the deal process
· Translate geospatial outputs into deal-relevant context – inventory upside, development spacing, acreage contiguity, basin positioning – in close collaboration with engineers and bankers to ensure deliverables support the commercial narrative.
· Automate repeatable GIS workflows and reduce turnaround time across concurrent transactions
· Own the firm's internal GIS data library: layer standards, templates, and version control that allow the team to move quickly without sacrificing accuracy
· Field ad hoc mapping and data requests from bankers and technical staff, often under tight deal-driven deadlines
Specific Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Science, Geography, or closely related discipline; advanced degree is a plus
· 4–8 years of professional GIS experience with demonstrated work product supporting upstream oil and gas transactions, A&D advisory, or energy investment banking
· Command of ArcGIS Pro as the primary working tool; familiarity with ArcGIS Online, QGIS, and Python-based geospatial libraries (arpy, geopandas) is a plus
· Preferably direct experience working with Enverus, Novi Labs, and business analytics software in a professional context
· Working familiarity with US Lower 48 basin and Gulf of America geology, play areas, and upstream asset structures able to contextualize geospatial data in a deal environment
· Proven track record of delivering accurate, polished client-ready maps and exhibits in deal environments
· Strong organizational skills and the discipline to manage several active workstreams simultaneously without sacrificing data integrity
· Strong work ethic, clear communicator, and collaborative team player
