PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
To provide stocking support for Produce Department and maintain all displays
and other areas of Produce Department in an orderly fashion and according to Company standards.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Primary emphasis in this position is on meeting daily needs in stocking, product rotation, customer assistance and load receiving in order to ensure maximum department sales and product availability. Primary learning challenge is product location, product knowledge and receiving procedures. This position requires ongoing judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, reading, moderate to heavy lifting, walking, operation of fork lift, pallet jack, box cutter, and exposure to cold temperatures and wet surfaces. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs.
Assignments and work direction are provided by the Produce Manager, Produce Merchandiser or person in charge.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides friendly and efficient customer service by demonstrating sincerity, patience and respect in all customer interactions.
2. Throughout the store, greets customers in a genuine and friendly manner. Learns customer names and uses them respectfully in greetings.
3. Assists customers throughout the store by:
· Escorting them to products they are looking for
· Loading or unloading heavy items and assisting with products that are out of
reach
· Offering product and/or recipe suggestions and recommendations
· Responding to customers’ questions and requests in a timely manner
· Treating them as the most important people in the store
4. Sincerely thanks customers for their business and choosing our store.
5. Demonstrates teamwork to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant working and shopping environment.
6. Performs stocking
· Ensures correct placement of stock and refilling of all displays
· Rotates stock for freshness
· Removes spoiled/damaged product from display
· Assists in markdowns of old product
· Straightens and builds displays
· Handles product carefully to avoid damage
· Fills and maintains cooler display
· Handles all designated pulldown items--evening
7. Receives product and unloads trucks received
· Checks product received for correct type and amount
· Properly logs information and fills out invoices
· Checks product for freshness and damage
· Properly sorts stock and loads onto cart/pallet jack in stable manner, and moves to proper area for stocking
· Codes and dates all product
· Stores overstock in proper location
8. Performs cleaning of sales floor/backroom/cooler
· Sweeps, mops and organizes backroom
· Cleans/sanitizes utensils used
· Cleans spills
· Properly disposes and separates cardboard and garbage
· Utilizes personal protective devices (safety glasses, cut resistant gloves)
9. Assists customers with questions or requests
· Takes special orders
· Answers all department phone calls and questions
· Refers customers to the proper area or individual for help
10. Follows all store and department policies and procedures
ADDITIONAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
11. Performs cutting, wrapping and prepares greens
· Prepares pre-cut fruit display
· Trims and wraps vegetables
· Knows and follows crisping program for greens
12. Assists with Produce resets, and assembles fruit baskets
13. Assists in other departments
· Grocery
· Front End
14. Works in Floral, Greenhouse or Bulk Foods Department
Functional Requirements
Frequent: Physical - lifting/carrying 10 to 85 lbs., pushing/pulling 20 to
2000 lbs., equipment operation (pallet jack, flatbed, fork lift, box
cutter, carts, pricing gun, marker, mop, broom, cleaning utensils,
compactor, coring machine, plastic wrapper, knives), reaching,
standing, kneeling, turning, walking, stooping/bending
Environment
Mental - judgment/decision making, memorization, reading, math
Environmental - exposure to cold temperatures (35 to 40 degrees)
Occasional: Physical - climbing ladders
Environmental - work outside
15. Education and/or Experience
· -High school education (or concurrent enrollment in an educational institution) preferred but not required
