POSITION: Substance Abuse Counselor
REPORTS TO: Program Director
REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma/GED
CASAC
Criminal Check Approval (NYS & FBI)
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist residents in attaining and maintaining sobriety (includes alcohol, illicit substances, sex, gambling, etc.).
PRIMARY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide weekly individual counseling for assigned residents and be available to all program clients.
2. Participate in weekly staff meetings.
3. Facilitate substance abuse group(s) at least twice a week.
4. Develop liaisons with inpatient detox and rehab programs.
5. Assess clients for other treatment needs (e.g. inpatient detox, rehab, long-term MICA programs, etc.) as requested by Program Director.
6. Documentation of all individual and group services.
7. Facilitate referrals to inpatient and outpatient detox programs.
8. Facilitate referrals to inpatient rehab programs.
9. Serve as a resource to all staff in the area of addiction (including gambling)
10. Attend annual anti-sexual harassment training.
