Role Description Piano Nobile seeks a highly skilled Senior Structural Engineer to manage all structural aspects of projects and contribute to integrated design solutions. In this role, you will  collaborate with lead architects, interior designers and craftsmen to deliver complex residential designs. This position requires an engineer that is licensed in the states of Washington and California and fully capable of working independently on all aspects of structural design, including permitting, calculations, design software management etc.  Day-to-day tasks include performing structural analysis and calculations, preparing design documents, and coordinating with project team members to ensure structural integrity, safety, and compliance with building codes. The role involves creating and reviewing structural drawings and details in CAD software, attending design and coordination meetings, and providing technical input throughout the design and construction phases. The Structural Engineer will also support field observations, respond to contractor questions, and contribute to innovative, context-sensitive design solutions. The job is 20 hrs a week, with an expectation of at least 8 hours in the office.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Structural Engineering and Civil Engineering, with the ability to apply these disciplines to residential and small-scale projects.
• Proficiency in Structural Analysis and structural design methods, including the ability to evaluate loads, materials, and systems for safety and performance.
• Ability to perform accurate engineering Calculations to support design decisions, documentation, and code compliance.
• Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for preparing, reviewing, and coordinating structural drawings and details.
• Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field; professional licensure (PE or SE) in Washington State and California.
• Knowledge of local building codes, seismic design requirements, and residential construction practices.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with multidisciplinary design teams and contractors.
• Attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and willingness to engage in on-site reviews and hands-on coordination during construction.
