Piala's Nursery & Garden Shop, Inc. is currently seeking a dependable Assistant Mechanic to help maintain and repair our fleet of landscaping equipment. This role is ideal for a retired or semi-retired mechanic—or a mechanically inclined individual—who enjoys working with engines and equipment but prefers flexible, part-time or seasonal hours.

What You’ll Work On
Our fleet includes a variety of commercial landscaping equipment, such as:
- Trimmers and blowers
- Small engine equipment
- Light- and medium-duty trucks
- Trailers and related support equipment
- Various tractor types
- Skid loaders
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance (oil changes, fluid services, filters, belts, tire replacements)
- Diagnose and repair small engines and gas-powered equipment
- Assist with general repairs on trucks and fleet vehicles
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and recommend practical solutions
- Order parts and manage vendor relationships
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and parts purchases
- Coordinate offsite or specialty repairs when necessary
- Ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for daily operations
- Maintain a clean and organized work area

REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Hold a current and valid Driver's License (Class A or B CDL is a plus, but not required)
- Ability to operate a tractor and/or skid loader to complete job duties; Must have experience operating skid loaders or be able and willing to learn
- Physical condition that allows you to meet the demands of daily tasks, including the ability to lift up to 40 lbs
- Working knowledge of routine fleet maintenance procedures
- Experience with small engine and gas engine repair
- Comfortable handling parts ordering and maintenance documentation
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Bilingual (English / Spanish) a plus
