Responsibilities
- The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) works under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures.
- The CST ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
- This role ensures the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety .
Job Requirements
- Must hold and maintain certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or NCCT certification if practicing prior to 2009.
- BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
- Completion of a CAAHEP- accredited or other nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists .
- Previous experience as a surgical technologist
