Information Technology Director – Data & Analytics
This person will direct, plan and oversee all data architecture and engineering disciplines to include ETL development, business intelligence, Data Science, and database administration functions reporting up to the VP of Enterprise Technology Group Architecture & Development.
Responsibilities:
- Directs and oversees the enterprise operational & analytic data architecture and engineering.
- Evaluates current technologies in the Market and assess the usage of those tools within the Physicians Mutual technology stack.
- Thought leader in the business intelligence, analytics and data engineering disciplines capable of guiding technical teams and business partners to optimal outcomes.
- Motivational and relational leader with a track record of building high performing teams.
- Partners with business managers and executive stakeholders to understand their operational and analytic needs.
- Develops deep working relationships with business areas, especially core data citizens accounting, actuarial, and marketing to understand the business goals and align data technology roadmaps to meet strategic objectives.
- Mentors managers and staff in data engineering best practices, department processes, and company standards.
- Builds consensus with stakeholders, resolve conflict through effective communication and responsible compromise.
- Advise and enforce data governance standards set by our Data Governance Board.
- Familiarity with visual analytic tools like Tableau and how those tools are used to drive business value.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines. Most code is delivered daily.
- Works with business units to define attainable goals, priorities, timelines, IT involvement, necessary resources, and projected costs.
- Hires and develops staff and manages budgets.
- Technical ability to dig into the data to understand integrations or fully explain technical complexity is required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or relevant discipline.
- 7 years IT experience
- 5 years leading & developing multiple highly skilled development teams.
- Prior management experience must oversee data teams specifically in ETL, BI, Data Science, & DBA’s.
- Working knowledge of Python and Spark specifically used for data functions.
- Strong data architecture and engineering experience.
- Ability to explain complex details to non-technical business team members and negotiate scope effectively, build consensus, and drive meaningful technology.
- Knowledge of analytic structures like Kimball, Snowflake, and Star Schemas.
- Experience with visual analytics tools (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.) to drive business value.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines with code being delivered daily.
- Technical ability to dig into the data to understand integrations & clearly explain technical complexity.
- Experienced working in Agile Methodologies.
Preferred:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or relevant discipline.
- Working knowledge of AWS RDS, Aurora, multi-AZ deployments.
- Python SciPy and modeling experience.
- Prior industry experience with Life & Health Insurance products, Marketing, or Workday ERP is a plus.
- Sales & Marketing Cloud experience.
- Prior experience managing immigration sponsorships.
