- Conduct thorough patient assessments before, during, and after dialysis sessions, including vital signs, fluid status, and vascular access site evaluations.
- Educate patients and their families on dialysis procedures, post-treatment care, and lifestyle adjustments to promote health and well-being.
- Collaborate with physicians, technicians, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
- Monitor for and respond promptly to complications such as hypotension, allergic reactions, or access issues during therapy sessions.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, infection control practices, and staff training programs to uphold high standards of care.
Skills
- Proven experience with dialysis procedures and vascular access management (e.g., fistulas, grafts).
- Strong knowledge of nephrology principles, electrolyte management, and acute pain management related to renal therapies.
- Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for documentation and patient tracking.
- Familiarity with infection control protocols and aseptic techniques specific to dialysis settings.
- Ability to perform venipuncture, IV insertions, catheter care, and specimen collection efficiently.
- Excellent patient assessment skills combined with compassionate communication tailored for diverse populations including geriatrics and individuals with disabilities.
- Critical care experience preferred, especially in ICU or emergency room environments involving complex patient needs.
