The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Surgical at Southwest Medical Center is a senior executive responsible for advancing quality, patient safety, operation efficiency, culture of safety, infection prevention, as well as the accreditation and regulatory efforts at Southwest Medical Center, ensuring the highest standards of patient care. This role provides clinical, operational, and strategic leadership and ensures delivery of high-quality, safe, and efficient patient care in surgical services. Reports to the Regional CMO. Leads with intention to achieve PeaceHealth's collective success through enhancing integration and standardization throughout the care continuum as One PeaceHealth. CMO Surgical has the authority and responsibility to oversee patient care services provided on their hospital and to ensure adherence to quality and regulatory requirements in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). The CMO must ensure that quality and performance improvement activities meet their target conditions. The CMO is responsible to adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards for their areas and to be continuously ready for any survey on those regulations or standards.

Essential Functions

  • Leads with intention to achieve PeaceHealth’s collective success through enhancing integration and standardization throughout the care continuum as One PeaceHealth.
  • Provides medical leadership to enhance quality, patient safety, and patient experience, ensuring the highest standards of evidence-based patient care in surgical services.
  • Supports initiatives to improve patient outcome and quality measures. Serves as the physician leader for select institution-wide and system-wide quality initiatives at the behest of the Regional CMO.
  • Supports development and implementation of evidence-based procedures and protocols of surgical services. Monitors and continuously refines effectiveness of surgical programs.
  • Partners with medical staff leaders and executives to foster a culture of safety, ensuring a just culture and a culture of collegiality and professional communication.
  • Works with medical staff leaders to support clinician and physician wellbeing, performance, professionalism, and professional development. Supports medical staff functions.
  • Promotes a collaborative relationship between PeaceHealth employed and community clinicians on staff at the medical center. Communicates PeaceHealth's clinical strategies with physicians and clinicians.
  • Collaborates with nursing, anesthesia, and peri-operative leaders to improve surgical and procedural operational efficiency and resource utilization.
  • Leads initiatives to improve surgical outcomes, OR and procedural efficiency, and progression of care.
  • Participates in strategic planning and decision-making processes involving new surgical programs, technologies, and strategic partnerships.
  • Leads, develops, and facilitates implementation of quality monitoring programs across PeaceHealth networks, affiliations, and partnerships, community-based programs.
  • In collaboration with key stakeholders and CNO, ensures compliance with all accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION

  • Accredited School of Medicine: Graduation from an accredited medical school and completed an accredited residency program in a medical or clinical specialty.
  • Master's Degree: Completion of an MBA, MHA, or secondary college education in a business or health administration field. (Preferred)

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of high-level healthcare leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of prior clinical practice experience.
  • Experience leading/partnering in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Up to date knowledge of changes in healthcare, emerging clinical methodologies, and standards.
  • Experience with redesign or process work which includes community or medical group wide implementation.

CREDENTIALS

  • Licensure as a physician in a Washington State. (Upon Hire)

  • Excellent verbal, negotiation, and written communication skills, particularly with key stakeholder groups such as physicians, other clinicians, and quality improvement staff.
  • Skilled in engaging providers to emphasize the PeaceHealth experience.
  • Strong facilitation and change leadership skills.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Skill in maintaining operational metrics.

The hourly range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $151.73– $200.14. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
