The logistics and trade compliance supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of domestic and international logistics operations while ensuring full compliance with trade regulations. This role manages freight coordination, customs documentation and regulatory adherence, and serves as a key liaison between internal departments and external partners including customs brokers, freight forwarders and government agencies.
Responsibilities
Logistics and Operations
- Supervise inbound and outbound freight activities including scheduling, carrier selection and performance monitoring.
- Coordinate with production, sales and customer service teams to ensure timely and accurate shipments.
- Resolve freight claims, discrepancies and maintain shipping documentation.
- Maintain and optimize warehouse and transportation workflows for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Trade Compliance
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations including HTS classification, country of origin, valuation and free trade agreements.
- Audit import and export documentation and maintain accurate records in accordance with 19 CFR and other application regulations.
- Develop and maintain SOPs for trade compliance processes and internal controls.
- Prepare and review SLI and Commercial Invoice documentation.
Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare logistics and compliance reports; analyze KPIs and performance metrics.
- Monitor regulatory changes and update internal procedures accordingly.
- Support internal audits and investigations related to trade compliance.
Team Leadership
- Supervise logistics staff and coordinate cross-functional collaboration.
- Provide training and guidance on compliance procedures and safety standards.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and regulatory awareness.
- Assist in daily activities with shipping and receiving on the warehouse floor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business or related field
- Three to five years of experience in logistics and trade compliance, preferably in a manufacturing or distribution environment
- Forklift certified (will be required to obtain if hired)
- IATA FIATA or Licensed Custom Broker (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of HTS classification, ACE reports and FTC labeling requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems (eg. Business Central)
- Excellent organizational, communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
