CONTROLS ENGINEER
Summary/Objective:
The controls engineers will oversee the production of various types of equipment and systems. They
will research, test, and analyze ideas for possible system and process improvements. They may design layout, materials and information flow, or machine placement. They may also be responsible for
increasing production efficiency by evaluating performance and proposing and implementing
improvements.
Essential Functions:
- Troubleshoot and eliminate control systems issues and handle controls projects.
- Develop new control and monitoring systems.
- Extend start up support and training for control and monitoring systems.
- Create and execute wireless communication systems for manufacturing.
- Interface with equipment vendors and contractors to troubleshoot and resolve startup issues.
- Develop and document new PLC control systems from concept to qualification.
- Understand process control issues and develop control solutions.
- Troubleshoot problems with current PLC control systems.
- Reverse engineer current systems and programs for performing failure recovery.
- Reply to downtime events impacting production.
- Troubleshoot control systems wiring and PLC logic.
Competencies:
- Firm grasp of engineering concepts, and experience designing systems and products.
- Excellent math skills: ability to apply advanced mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems.
Required Education and Experience:
- BS in Manufacturing, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
- Advanced mathematic skills required.
- Proficient in computer-aided design and drafting software.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 3-5 years’ experience in product development
- Training in CAD software and technology
- Familiarity with common PLC hardware
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office and shop environment. This role routinely uses standard
office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. This role will also be exposed to
industrial equipment including but not limited to lathes, mills, and forklifts.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The
employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with

and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, 40-hours per week position, and typical hours of work and days are Monday
through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additional shifts may be assigned as business needs dictate and
occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel:
Occasional travel is expected (typically 1-2 weeks) of this position depending on company needs.
Travel will be communicated on a project-to-project basis.
