Your Role: Structural Steel Project Estimator

We’re looking for an experienced, detail-oriented Structural Steel / Miscellaneous Metals Estimator to develop accurate and competitive estimates for commercial and industrial steel projects. This position will be responsible for evaluating bid opportunities from initial plan review through final proposal, working closely with our sales, fabrication, and field teams.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Review architectural and structural drawings, specifications, addenda, and bid documents to determine project scope
• Perform detailed material takeoffs for structural steel and miscellaneous metals
• Estimate fabrication, detailing, coating, delivery, erection, equipment, and subcontractor requirements
• Develop labor-hour estimates based on project complexity, fabrication requirements, and installation conditions
• Solicit and evaluate pricing from material suppliers and subcontractors
• Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, exclusions, and potential project risks
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site walks as needed to verify existing conditions and project requirements
• Prepare clear scope narratives, inclusions, exclusions, and proposal documentation
• Coordinate with sales, project management, fabrication, and field teams to ensure estimates reflect realistic execution plans
• Participate in bid reviews, pricing discussions, value engineering, and project handoffs
• Maintain organized estimating documentation and historical cost information to support future bids

What You Bring

• 5 years of structural steel and/or miscellaneous metals estimating experience preferred
• Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection practices
• Experience estimating miscellaneous metals such as stairs, railings, ladders, platforms, embeds, and similar fabricated components
• Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings and specifications
• Understanding of material quantities, fabrication labor, erection labor, equipment, coatings, and subcontracted scopes
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with structural steel estimating, takeoff, or detailing software is a plus
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with sales, project management, shop, and field personnel
• Understanding of the project lifecycle from estimating and procurement through fabrication and installation

Work Schedule

• Monday to Friday | 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• Based on-site at our Portland, ME headquarters
• Occasional travel to project sites as needed
