What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant position at Phoenix Physical Therapy?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) assists occupational therapists with planning and conducting programs to help patients in regaining physical and mental stability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reviews medical history of patients and assists in developing personalized plans to improve the health and wellness of individuals.
- Assists in the assessment of a patient's mental or physical condition.
- Evaluates and reports patient's reactions to the program and initiates changes accordingly.
- Emphasizes improving the daily quality of life for patients through analyzing their home and or work environment and providing recommendations for accommodating these areas.
- Follows treatment plan developed in collaboration with occupational therapist by teaching techniques.
- Provides education to family members and or employer on matters of accommodations and program progress.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education / Training:
- Graduate of an accredited program approved by The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE)Therapy Association (AOTA) with Associates Degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant
- Must be a Licensed/Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, issued by the State Board of Occupational Therapy.
- CPR certification required.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills:
- Customer/client orientation.
- Detail oriented and Attentive.
- Ability to lift/move heavy objects.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Physical Requirements:
- Varied activities including sitting, walking, squatting, stooping, lifting, bending, reaching.
- Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and to lift 100 pounds.
