POSITION TITLE: MECHANICAL ENGINEER, LEVEL II

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for the engineering of mechanical systems, underwater systems remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), tools, and methods for performing ship and offshore structure inspection, repair, and recovery by divers and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Work performed supports U.S. Navy and commercial customers in new developments, modification of existing systems, and operational support. This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and works under the technical supervision and guidance of senior engineers. This is an office-based position with offshore travel several times a year for meetings, testing, and supporting operations. This position is located in the Largo, MD, or any other Phoenix office location, with remote work options available.

CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT (SALARIED) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Designs and develops mechanical systems and components for underwater use and supporting equipment (e.g. ROVs, AUVs and payloads, diving systems, cofferdams, handling systems, and deck equipment).
* Integrates components and subsystems to ROVs and other systems.
* Engineers, tests, troubleshoots, and documents prototype components, subsystems, and systems through the life cycle of the system, including conception, definition, build, and operation phases.
* Drafts/Assembles sections of project documentation packages and proposals as part of a team.
* Works in a multidisciplinary team environment on multiple projects, leading some tasks.
* Supervises the work of CAD Designers/Draftspersons and checks drawings and analyses performed by others.
* Works with all basic mechanical analyses and equipment and provides expertise in at least one analysis and one type of equipment.
* Interfaces with Divers, ROV crews, and technicians to address technical issues.
* Follows Phoenix Quality Management System (QMS) procedures, and on tasks they are responsible for, implements the QMS procedures.
* Travels 5-10% of the time. Offshore projects may rarely be up to 6 weeks. May be contacted for support from offshore crews at any time.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* BS degree in mechanical, structural, marine, or ocean engineering.
* Minimum 3 years of applicable working experience.
* Expertise in one, proficiency in two, and familiarity with at least two other types of analysis to include: structural (AISC Steel Construction Manual, Aluminum Association Aluminum Design Manual), naval architecture, hydraulics, cofferdams (NAVSEA Underwater Ships Husbandry Manual CH 16), cranes/A-frames/winches (American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Underwater Vehicles, Systems and Hyperbaric Facilities), umbilicals, propulsion, materials/corrosion, rigging (NAVFAC P-307), and welding (American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1, D1.2, D1.9).
* Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3-D solid modeling program.
* Familiarity with SolidWorks Simulation or similar FEA software.
* Knowledge of quality assurance/control methods.
* Demonstrated technical writing experience. Proficiency with MS Office software. Familiarity with document/proposal development process desired.
* Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance desired.
* Engineering experience in marine industry desired.
* Commercial diving or ROV experience desired.
* Mechanical or machine shop experience desired.
* Willingness and physical ability to travel to all Phoenix facilities and to field operations, inland and offshore, including climbing ladders, personnel transfer at-sea, and carrying/lifting 40 lbs.
* Ability to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background check, as required.
