Position Summary:
The Cardiovascular Ultrasound Technician uses ultrasound and other noninvasive echocardiography testing
equipment to produce images of the heart. These procedures require specialized knowledge and skills in support of the provision of diagnostic and/or therapeutic services specified to the Practice patient population.
Key Duties Include
- Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infectious disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures
- Assume responsibility for the safety of the patient during the sonography examination
- Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information
- Ensure the sonography examination order is complete, contains relevant clinical information, and meets the standard of “medical necessity”
- Uses good judgment when determining if the procedure was sufficient for proper diagnoses, or if additional imaging procedures are needed
- Provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation
- Monitors the patient’s physical condition during the course of the procedure; report a patient's change of status or emergency situations to clinical staff, manager, and/or cardiologist.
- Recognize abnormal rhythms and immediately notify the physician or appropriate clinical staff
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Troubleshoot equipment and document errors or equipment malfunctions; escalate issues and concerns to manager and/or cardiologist.
- Perform tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation, knowledge, and local, state, and federal guidelines.

- Current TB screen and Hepatitis B information or waiver
- Ability to perform physical demands such as turning, bending, squatting, kneeling, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds; constant/repetitive standing; requires normal, correctable vision and hearing, and the ability to accurately discern color as necessary to perform job functions.
- Graduate of an accredited school of Ultrasonography. Registered with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)-Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS)
- Current state certification or licensure
- Maintenance of current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
