About the Role:

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of heavy machinery used in mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction industries. This position involves diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing complex mechanical and hydraulic systems on a variety of heavy equipment, including diesel trucks and excavation machinery. The mechanic will work closely with operations teams to minimize equipment downtime and maximize productivity by performing timely and effective repairs. Attention to detail and adherence to safety standards are paramount, as the role directly impacts the safety of personnel and the integrity of equipment. Ultimately, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic ensures that all machinery operates at peak performance to support continuous and safe industrial operations across various sites in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, preferably within mining, quarrying, or oil and gas extraction industries.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, braking systems, and heavy equipment repair techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work in various locations across the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification from a recognized trade or technical school in heavy equipment mechanics or diesel technology.
  • Experience working with computerized diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations specific to mining and oil and gas industries.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery and perform welding or fabrication tasks.
  • Previous experience in a remote or field-based work environment.

Responsibilities:

    Performs a variety of duties in support of the operation of Phoenix Global. The job consists of providing maintenance services to the Phoenix fleet and related equipment. Responsible for acting in accordance with the policies and procedures of Phoenix Global and its customers.

    Assembles, dissembles, and repair mobile equipment and their system’s components. 

    Tear down, replace, repair, and install equipment parts, components, and accessories.

    Diagnoses and determines failure or disruption of mobile equipment and their systems.

    Diagnose mechanical problems, replace and/or repair parts, test and adjust. 

    Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance.

    Compliance with all Phoenix Safety Policies & Procedures, including wearing specific Personal Protective Equipment required for various job functions. 

    Compliance with all Phoenix Standard Operating Procedures 

    Attendance at Mandatory monthly Safety Meetings 

    Housekeeping and safe handling of materials and equipment must always be exercised. 

    Exercise and implement proper lifting and carrying techniques when moving packaging materials. 

    Planning work schedules and resource deployment

    Performing quality control and quality assurance 

    Performing general and preventative maintenance on Transportation units (e.g., excavators, loaders, transport vehicles, etc.) into service. 

    Handling components, modules, and systems of Transportation units 

    Documentation of all completed work 

    Tracking of all parts and lubricant consumed.

    Observing relevant safety, accident prevention and environmental regulations

Skills:

The required skills such as expertise in heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, brakes, diesel engines, and axles are essential for diagnosing and repairing complex machinery on a daily basis. Proficiency in hydraulics and braking systems allows the mechanic to maintain critical safety components, ensuring equipment operates reliably under demanding conditions. Repairing skills are applied continuously to restore equipment functionality and prevent costly downtime. Knowledge of diesel trucks and engines supports the mechanic in servicing a wide range of vehicles and machinery used in extraction operations. Preferred skills like certification and familiarity with computerized diagnostics enhance the mechanic’s ability to troubleshoot efficiently and adhere to industry safety standards, contributing to overall operational excellence.
