POSITION SUMMARY: The Clinical Director is responsible for performing a wide variety of client care activities as directed by the attending physician, Medical Director, Executive Director/Director of Nursing. He/she will be responsible for client caseload and will provide group, individual, and family therapy ensuring progress toward the four main clinical goals for Chemical Dependency treatment. He/she will collaborate as part of the treatment team to formulate the Abbreviated Detox Treatment Plan and assist in coordinating discharge planning. The Clinical Director is responsible for direct non-medical care of detox clients and responsible for the supervision of all non-medical staff, ensuring they provide individual and group interventions using evidence- based strategies for clients in the detoxification phase of treatment. He/she is responsible for the validation of the Detoxification Treatment Plan and Detoxification Clinical Assessment.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS COMPETENCIES:

- Leadership: The clinical director is responsible for ensuring that evidence-based techniques are used by all clinical staff to ensure the four basic goals of substance dependency therapy are maintained and appropriate progress is made toward these goals for each client in detox. This individual provides regular performance feedback; and develops subordinates’ skills and encourages growth.
- Judgment: This individual displays a willingness to make decisions, exercise discretion, exhibits sound and accurate judgment, and makes timely decisions for themselves and in moving a client a client through treatment levels. Must be able to exercise self-control and diplomacy in client and employee relations’ situations.
- Planning/organizing: This individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.
- Adaptability: This individual demonstrates the ability and flexibility to changes in the work environment.
- Safety and security: This individual observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly. Follows Infection Control guidelines at all times. Provides a safe and therapeutic environment to all staff and clients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and BASIC DUTIES:
- Adheres to the facility’s philosophy
- Maintains therapeutic case load of a maximum of 5.
- Provides a lead role in multidisciplinary treatment team reviews, demonstrating adequate preparation and understanding of client issues, progress, areas of resistance, positive and negative strategies, etc., and presenting case in a clear and concise manner.
- Coordinate with treatment team members to provide interventions for clients in need of redirection.
- Documents the client’s progress accurately as it relates to treatment goals and objectives,
ensuring that the documentation is timely, clear, concise, and articulate.
- Oversee the development of a discharge plan for each client that meets the client’s needs for ongoing support post-detox level of care. Overseas the linking of clients with internal and external resources as needed to meet client needs.
- Maintains regular contact and open communication with families as allowed by the client.
- Build rapport with clients and elicit respect while maintaining healthy appropriate boundaries at all times.
- Functions as leader of Clinical Staff Meetings when the director is away or needs coverage.
- Provides coverage for clinical director’s duties as needed.
- Attend clinical and administrative meetings to share information inter-departmentally.
- Builds positive relationships with staff and physicians.
- Works collaboratively with the Clinical Director.
- Demonstrates knowledge of administrative and clinical policies and procedures, and the ability to

- Every other weekend on call for backer-acts and AMA blocking – If a AMA is going on you will be required to come in or talk to patients and staff over the phone to solve all issues.
- Takes initiative on All AMA blocking
- Assists with the coordination of client information and the utilization review department for insurance coverage and reimbursement.
- Oversee the resolution of grievances.
- Performs other job duties as necessary.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
- Master’s degree in social work, Psychology, or related human services field.
- Current State Licensure in Mental Health Counseling or Social Work
- Four years of supervision experience in the mental health field or Substance Dependency field.
- Maintains up-to-date training in CPR, First Aid, Crisis Intervention, Infection Control, Fire Safety, and other areas mandated by organizational policies.
