Position Summary
Phoenix Data Corporation is seeking a hands-on HR Generalist to support day-to-day human resources operations across the organization. This role will focus on recruiting coordination, onboarding, employee support, HR administration, and payroll backup. The HR Generalist will partner closely with the HR Director to help scale HR processes as the company continues to grow.
This position is based on-site at our Indianapolis office and is not eligible for remote work. The successful candidate must be willing to travel to the Marion office approximately one day per week to maintain HR visibility, support employees and managers, and assist with local HR operations.
Due to the nature of our government contract work, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background investigation and maintain eligibility to obtain a security clearance.
Key Responsibilities
Recruiting & Onboarding
- Coordinate full-cycle recruiting activities including posting jobs, screening candidates, and scheduling interviews
- Partner with hiring managers to support hiring needs and timelines
- Prepare offer letters and new hire documentation
- Facilitate new hire onboarding and orientation
- Ensure completion of background checks, I-9s, and pre-employment requirements
- Maintain applicant tracking system and candidate communication
HR Administration
- Serve as a first point of contact for employee HR-related questions
- Maintain employee personnel files and HRIS records
- Track required acknowledgements, policies, and compliance documentation
- Assist with benefits administration and employee enrollments
- Support performance review administration and tracking
- Assist with employee communications and HR initiatives
Payroll Support (Bi-Weekly Payroll)
- Provide backup support for bi-weekly payroll processing
- Review timesheets and assist with timekeeping questions
- Track PTO balances and employee changes impacting payroll
- Assist with payroll audits and reporting as needed
Employee Support
- Support employee relations intake and documentation
- Assist managers with HR processes and forms
- Help coordinate training and policy rollouts
- Participate in HR projects and process improvements
Travel Requirement
- Travel to the Marion office approximately one day per month
- Provide on-site HR visibility and employee support
- Assist with onboarding, employee questions, and manager support during visits
- Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of HR experience preferred
- Experience supporting recruiting and onboarding
- Knowledge of HRIS systems (ADP preferred)
- Payroll exposure or willingness to learn payroll processing
- Strong organizational and follow-through skills
- Ability to handle confidential information professionally
- Excellent communication and employee support skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to successfully pass a background check and maintain eligibility to obtain a security clearance
- Ability to work on-site in Indianapolis and travel regularly to Marion
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a growing or multi-location organization
- Experience supporting hourly and salaried employees
- Exposure to employee relations and compliance processes
- HR certification (SHRM-CP or PHR) a plus but not required
- Experience supporting government contractors or regulated work environments is a plus
Work Schedule
- Full-time, exempt position
- Primarily Monday through Friday
- Flexibility in work hours is required to support business needs, onboarding schedules, employee meetings, training events, and occasional operational requirements across multiple shifts
