What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fiber Optic Lineman (Aerial & Underground) position at PHOENIX COMMUNICATIONS, INC?
As a Fiber Optic Lineman, you'll construct and maintain outside plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure supporting broadband internet, enterprise fiber networks, and utility communications. This position performs both aerial and underground fiber construction throughout Virginia and surrounding areas.
Primary Responsibilities
- Construct new aerial fiber optic runs by building strand, lashing fiber and over-lashing existing plant..
- Complete pole transfers during utility pole replacements, including straight-through, three-way, and four-way transfers.
- Climb utility poles using approved climbing equipment and work safely from bucket trucks and aerial lifts.
- Install and blow fiber through microduct and conduit systems underground.
- Install tracer wire, pedestals, handholes, vaults, and related outside plant infrastructure.
- Perform hand excavation around existing underground utilities when required.
- Read construction prints, staking sheets, utility maps, and work packages.
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets customer specifications and company quality standards.
- Perform emergency restoration work and outage response when necessary.
- Complete daily production reports and communicate effectively with supervisors and customers.
- Follow OSHA, NESC, utility owner, customer, and company safety requirements at all times.
