Essential Functions
PARAMEDIC CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides direct patient care as a member of the emergency care team.
Patient care skills as defined by Georgia statutes for Paramedics in the state of Georgia.
Clinical duties will primarily include rotations to any shift, based on patient care needs.
Receive and or give report to supervisor or nurse as needed.
Notify physician and (or) RN of significant changes in patient's response to treatment and care, symptoms of infection, disease, stress, reactions to medications, etc.
Take patient's medical and social history.
Arrange for ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
Assist in development of patient care plan in consultation with supervisor or physician.
Admit, transfer, transcribe orders, chart, complete charges, clerical duties when necessary.
Take and record vital signs, measure and record intake and output, collect specimens; perform irrigation's; apply dressings, bandages, pads, compresses, packs, etc.
Prepare and administer prescribed medications including intravenous solutions.
Perform prescribed treatments. Observe and record: medications and treatments and patient reaction/response to same.
Recognize emergencies and respond with proper protocol, i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen, pulmonary ventilations by esophageal and endotracheal tube, endotracheal suction, emergency drugs, defibrillation, application of medical equipment, others, as established by medical staff.
Perform catheterizations, suctioning, lavage, I.V.; apply sterile dressings; monitor patients.
Apply first aid, perform patient assessment.
Set up and prepare instruments, supplies, equipment and drugs and assist physician in treating patient.
Respond to code calls and may direct code if no physician is available.
Advanced airway management skills will be performed under direction of medical director (i.e. oral and nasal endotracheal intubations).
Medication administration includes parenteral injections of: diuretics, anticonvulsants, hypertonic glucose, antihistamines, bronchodilators, emetics, narcotic antagonists, opioid antagonists, antiarrhythmic agents, vagolytic agents, chronotropic agents, alkalizing agents, analgesic agents, and vasopressor agents.
Perform catheterizations, suctioning, lavage, peripheral intravenous catheter placement; apply sterile dressings; and monitor patients.
Apply first aid, perform patient assessment.
Obtain RN review on all patient assessments.
Set up and prepare instruments, supplies, equipment and drugs and assist physician in treating patient.
When necessary, respond to code calls.
Advanced airway management skills will be performed under direction of medical director (i.e. oral and nasal endotracheal intubations).
Keep supply carts equipped and ready for use.
Support discharge / transfer process and patient escort / transport.
