Tissue Culture Lab Technician 1 The Tissue Culture Lab Technician I supports daily laboratory operations and contributes to the successful propagation and maintenance of plant tissue cultures. This entry-level role focuses on performing routine tasks with accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established protocols. Responsibilities include preparing media and materials, assisting with plant tissue transfers, maintaining a sterile work environment, and accurately documenting all activities. The Technician I works under close supervision, follows standard operating procedures, and supports the team in meeting production goals while upholding strict quality and sanitation standards.Reports to: Lab DirectorKey Responsibilities:· Prepare stock solutions and adequate quantities of tissue culture media and clone gel.· Ensure adequate supplies of other materials for tissue culture protocols are prepared.· Ensure media and other materials are autoclaved at correct cycles to achieve sterilization and that autoclaved materials are properly handled to maintain sterility.· Maintain strict cleanliness and organization of tissue culture laboratory.· Ensure culture vessels, test tubes, clone trays, and all other lab equipment is cleaned effectively by dishwasher and/or hand washing.· Perform necessary maintenance and servicing of laboratory as directed by leads or managers.· Follow aseptic technique protocols when working in laminar flow hoods.· Perform ex vitro rooting to fulfill production quotas. Acclimatize and garden cultures in the clone room.· Use IVS and any other program as needed to track and maintain detailed records of mother block, tissue culture transfers and multiplication, rooting and transplant quotas, supply inventories, and any other data and information as needed.· Assist R&D Specialist as needed with different projects.· Adhere to all work safety requirements including but not limited to lifting, bending, and moving up and down ladders throughout shift.· Ensure all chemicals are properly stored· Ensure all employees practice safe handling of all chemicals, including those used for media preparation and cleaning.· Ensure all employees wear necessary PPE for various tasks.· Before entering/exiting the facility put on/remove protective clothing and ensure that there is no plant material or fungus on your personal clothing, shoes, or hair.· Ensure intradepartmental communication to optimize workflow and effective prioritization.· Participate in meetings with the supervisory team to discuss company changes.· Other duties as assigned. Qualifications:· High school diploma or equivalent; coursework or certification in biology, plant science, horticulture, or related fields preferred.· 0–1 year of experience in a laboratory (tissue culture experience is a plus).· Basic understanding of sterile technique and willingness to learn aseptic procedures.· Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow precise protocols and maintain accurate records.· Comfortable working in a controlled, sterile environment for extended periods.· Ability to perform repetitive tasks with consistency and efficiency.· Good manual dexterity and steady hand coordination for delicate plant tissue handling.· Strong organizational and time-management skills.· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.· Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain confidentiality and compliance with all company policies and state cannabis regulations.Additional Requirements:Must be at least 21 years of age (or per local laws).Ability to pass background checks in accordance with state regulations.Reliable transportation to and from the facility.Ability to work in a fast-paced, regulated environment.Physical Requirements:Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for extended periods.Ability to work in varying environmental conditions (e.g., temperature-controlled grow rooms).Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
