Summary: The Electrical Superintendent – Solar is responsible for leading all field execution of electrical work on commercial, industrial, and distributed generation (DG) solar projects. This role provides direct supervision of electrical crews and subcontractors, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, schedules, and applicable electrical codes. The Electrical Superintendent oversees manpower, productivity, quality, and safety from mobilization through commissioning and utility energization, serving as the primary field leader for all electrical scope.

This is a field-based, traveling position requiring strong electrical leadership, solar-specific experience, and the ability to manage complex electrical installations in dynamic jobsite environments.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all electrical installation activities on solar projects, including self-perform crews and subcontractors.
  • Lead field execution of DC and AC electrical systems, including:
  • DC systems such as feeders, wire management, combiner boxes, and grounding.
  • AC systems such as inverters, transformers, switchgear, interconnection equipment, and collection systems.
  • Plan, schedule, and manage daily and weekly manpower and production goals to meet project milestones.
  • Enforce compliance with NEC, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements, maintaining full responsibility for electrical safety within the scope of work.
  • Coordinate inspections, commissioning activities, testing, and utility energization efforts.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to confirm scope, constructability, and execution strategy.
  • Track and control field-level costs, materials, equipment, and labor productivity.
  • Monitor quality of work performed by crews and subcontractors, ensuring installations meet project and industry standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and field execution issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist with material takeoffs, procurement coordination, and inventory tracking as needed.
  • Communicate progress, manpower, schedule impacts, and issues to Project Managers and leadership.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and inspection-ready job sites.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide feedback to forepersons, assistant superintendents, and craft personnel.
  • Participate in project meetings and serve as the primary field liaison between engineering, project management, inspectors, and subcontractors.
  • Support documentation and tracking of safety, quality, and production metrics.
  • Travel full-time to project sites as required, with rotation schedules dependent on project needs.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of NEC and electrical construction best practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability managing electrical crews in field environments.
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Experience coordinating commissioning, testing, and utility interconnection activities.
  • Knowledge of electrical testing and troubleshooting methods, including megger testing and system diagnostics.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced, schedule-driven environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across field, project management, and engineering teams.
  • Progressive approach to safety leadership and program enforcement.

Education And Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of electrical field experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
  • Solar or renewable energy experience required; DG or C&I solar experience strongly preferred (approximately 100kW–10MW).
  • Experience with inverter platforms such as SMA, CPS, Sungrow, or similar systems preferred.
  • Experience with medium-voltage systems, underground cable installation, terminations, and utility coordination preferred.
  • Electrical license (Journeyman, Master, or equivalent) preferred where applicable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent field experience accepted.
  • OSHA 30 certification required or ability to obtain.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet driving and travel requirements.

Completion and clearance of this physical are mandatory steps in the hiring process.
