Position Overview:
The Health Information Management (HIM) Manager oversees and performs the duties related, but not limited to, the retrieval and distribution of medical record information needed for patient care, insurance, personal retention, research, and legal purposes. Release patient health information appropriately to requesters according to State and Federal regulations as well as Departmental Policies and Procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and oversee the daily operations of the Health Information Management department.
- Develop and implement departmental goals, policies, and procedures in alignment with organizational objectives.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS, and other accrediting agency standards.
- Monitor and maintain the accuracy, accessibility, and security of medical records.
- Manage departmental budget and optimize productivity across operations.
- Serve as the HIPAA Privacy Officer, providing training, monitoring compliance, and managing privacy-related incidents.
- Coordinate Utilization Review (UR) functions, track requests, and oversee appeals processes.
- Lead efforts in Promoting Interoperability and maintain regulatory reporting measures.
- Participate in the Quality Improvement (QI) Committee, contributing to data analysis, reporting, and process enhancement.
- Collaborate with providers, clinical teams, and administration to ensure high-quality documentation and regulatory compliance.
- Stay current on healthcare privacy laws, compliance updates, and trends in HIM best practices.
Job Qualifications:
Required Education:
Associate's degree, preferred Bachelor's
Required Certifications/Registrations:
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or RHIA
Experience:
- Minimum 2-4 years of HIM-related experience, or 5 years of healthcare business office-related experience.
- Must have a high degree of customer service skills in order to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and care teams.
- Excellent typing skills, customer service skills, problem-solving abilities, and high attention to detail.
- Maintain Confidentiality per HIPAA regulations and policies.
Preferred Experience:
- 1-2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- MS Office Experience.
