Quality Inspector

PHILLIP CABLE MFR
Norcross, GA Full Time
POSTED ON 7/29/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/25/2026

About the Company

We are an established defense electronics manufacturer specializing in cable assemblies and wire harnesses for U.S. military and government customers. We have supplied all branches of the armed services for over a decade from our 26,000 sq. ft. facility in Norcross. Our shop is certified to IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 — the highest workmanship standard in the industry — and we are currently completing certification to AS9100 and ISO 9001.

Position Summary

The Quality Inspector is the final gate between a completed build and a shipment to the customer. In this role you will inspect incoming material, verify finished assemblies against engineering drawings and military specifications, confirm shipping documentation, and document nonconformances.

This is a hands-on, floor-based inspection role in a low-volume, high-mix environment. Every unit that leaves our facility carries a quality guarantee, and the inspector's signature is what stands behind it. If you take pride in catching what others miss, this is that job.

Key Responsibilities

Incoming Material Inspection

  • Inspect purchased components, wire, connectors, and contacts on receipt for damage, incorrect part numbers, and workmanship defects
  • Document discrepant material on controlled quality forms, including lot traceability information
  • Coordinate with Purchasing on vendor resolution of defective material

In-Process and Final Inspection

  • Inspect completed cable assemblies and wire harnesses against engineering drawings, wire lists, and customer specifications
  • Verify overall dimensions, build tolerances, part marking, connector orientation, and keyway alignment
  • Perform electrical continuity testing with a multimeter to confirm point-to-point conformance and absence of shorts or opens
  • Inspect crimps, terminations, solder joints, strain relief, and wire preparation to IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 criteria
  • Record inspection results and disposition each unit as accept, rework, scrap, or nonconforming
  • Photograph and document completed jobs as objective evidence of inspection

Packaging and Documentation Verification

  • Verify exterior container marking, shipping labels, and military shipping documentation
  • Cross-verify quantities, line items, and addresses across packing lists, receiving reports, and RFID records
  • Identify documentation discrepancies and coordinate corrections before release
  • Apply final quality acceptance stamp authorizing shipment

Nonconformance and Quality System Support

  • Document nonconformances clearly and objectively, including quantity, defect description, and root cause observations
  • Return nonconforming work to production team leaders and verify effectiveness of rework
  • Maintain inspection records and quality documentation in accordance with the quality management system
  • Support first article inspection, internal audits, calibration control, and corrective action activities as the AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality system is implemented

Required Qualifications

  • 2 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent military experience in electronics maintenance, quality assurance, or inspection
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, wire lists, and written specifications
  • Working proficiency with basic measurement and test equipment: tape measure, calipers, pin gauges, and multimeter
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and the willingness to reject work that does not conform, including under schedule pressure
  • Clear written communication sufficient to document defects objectively
  • Basic computer literacy (email, spreadsheets, digital record keeping)

Preferred Qualifications

  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 CIS certification (current or lapsed). We are an IPC-certified training site and can certify the right candidate in-house at company expense.
  • Prior experience inspecting cable assemblies, wire harnesses, or electromechanical assemblies
  • Experience in a defense, aerospace, or other regulated manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or first article inspection requirements
  • Experience with crimp pull testing and crimp height verification
  • IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification
  • Prior military service, particularly in an electronics maintenance or quality assurance role

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • On-site
  • Frequent close visual work requiring good near vision, with or without correction; color differentiation required for wire identification
  • Regular standing, walking, sitting, and repetitive hand and wrist motion
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
  • Required use of personal protective equipment and adherence to ESD controls

What We Offer

  • Competitive hourly pay with overtime opportunity
  • In-house IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification and recertification at company expense
  • Direct exposure to AS9100 and ISO 9001 implementation, with a defined growth path toward senior inspector and quality management roles
  • A stable, long-tenured team at a company that has supplied the U.S. military since 2013
