Utility Production Associate

Position Summary:

The Utility Associate will support all efforts to prepare meals. This will include prepping for events, volunteer activities, production flow, cleaning, trash removal, and restocking as needed. The Utility Production Associate will be following standard food safety processes and assist as needed. Must be comfortable in a fast-paced evolving environment.

PCK has guests, students and adjusting staff levels. This role will work with guest activity to support the need for ongoing prep, clean up and restocking. Daily, Weekly and Monthly preventative maintenance schedule will be followed. This is a key role in ensuring the kitchen area is always inspection ready.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Directly responsible for alignment with kitchen preparation for events, volunteer activity and visitor supplies, food prep, packaging and other related needs to ensure PCK is proactively ready for events.

• Provides support for packaging food, prep and clean up.

• Provides cross coverage for Utility Associate and provides support to the Executive Chef, Catering Chef and Director PCK as well as Volunteer Associate as needed and assigned as special projects or volume over flow.

• Maintains an up-to-date cleaning schedule to ensure floors, surfaces, equipment, serving and cooking utensils and tools are clean.

• General cleaning, sanitizing and alignment with compliance requirements should be addressed at all times.

• Assists in kitchen inspections, scheduled and special requests.

• Consistent review and removal of trash and debris to always maintain sanitary conditions.

• Maintains a professional, clean, and neat environment and provides extra review of before, during and after event activity to keep kitchen environment clean and organized.

• Responsible for supporting and aligning with Philabundance Cultural pillars. Ensuring communications, actions and interactions reflect a focus on People, Professionalism, Partnerships, and Progress.

Additional Job Duties:

• Supports inventory of food, supplies, and equipment; counting and stock rotation as needed.

• May be asked to support packaging and preparing meals, as needed.

• Special projects and general support as requested.

Note: This role requires the successful completion of a standard background check. Specific clearances may be required for Woodstock staff.

Education Achievement:

• High School Diploma or GED required, additional formal education a plus.

• SERVSafe certified a plus, must be willing to work toward certification (30 days).

Work Experience:

• Experience in a professional environment, school, retail, or volunteer situation.

Preferred:

• Minimum of one year of experience in a professional kitchen or foodservice operation preferred.

• Ability to speak multiple languages a plus. Fluency with Spanish highly preferred.

• Previous experience with sanitation in a culinary environment preferred.

Physical Demands:

• Must be available work weekends and evenings or rotating schedules (i.e. specific days and times throughout the week given PCK’s 365-day operations, etc.) depending on business and/or shelter staffing needs.

• Move, push/pull and carry objects/parcels no greater than 50 pounds; when moving/lowering, pushing/pulling and carrying objects/parcels greater than 50 pounds use 2 people or mechanical.

• Work in a standing position for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week; Bend, stoop/squat, and walk intermittently throughout the day.

• Ability to work with chemicals, cleaning products, plastic, and high-water temperatures for cleaning activities.

• See, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions and communication with the public.

• Maintain an acceptable work pace and align with required deadlines. Must meet deadlines.

• Must be able to read words and numbers accurately.

• Work in an environment that will contain variable temperatures which may include extreme cold due to refrigeration and freezers or higher than average due to cooking equipment.

• Demonstrate cognitive ability to follow directions and routines, work independently with safety and efficiency as part of appropriate judgement.
