Role Overview
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will own the design, prototyping, integration, and testing of robotic systems including UAVs, ground robots, and hybrid platforms. This is a highly hands-on role focused on rapid iteration and real-world deployment. Engineers at Pheratech are expected to take projects from concept through field testing with a high degree of autonomy, working closely with electrical, software, and autonomy engineers to deliver complete robotic systems.
Responsibilities
- Assume primary ownership of mechanical development efforts, driving projects from concept, design, prototyping, testing, and deployment with minimal supervision.
- Design and prototype mechanical systems for robotics platforms (UAVs, ground systems, and hybrid systems) using 3D printing, machining, and off-the-shelf components.
- Refine and integrate structures, mechanisms, and enclosures for field testing and deployment.
- Work across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with rapid iteration cycles.
Basic Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on experience building physical systems such as robots, drones, vehicles, or other electromechanical systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong fundamentals in mechanical design, dynamics, materials, and manufacturing.
- Experience with CAD design using SolidWorks (required).
- Experience using 3D printing technologies (FDM required; SLS and resin printing preferred).
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced engineering environment.
- Experience designing and building UAV systems and mobile robotic systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and related manufacturing processes.
- Experience taking prototypes from initial concepts to manufacturable designs.
- Experience with simulation tools (FEA, CFD).
