What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Financial Officer position at Phaxis?
An emerging-markets neobank providing USD-denominated banking services to customers in high-inflation, currency-volatile markets. We are building the institutional infrastructure — including pursuing a potential bank charter — and need a financially sophisticated executive to own the numbers, model the institution, and be a credible counterparty to regulators, banking partners, and our executive team.
This is an onsite position in San Francisco, CA with an appealing all cash salary and competitive benefits. This position will report to the Founders and relocation is offered, if needed. The OpportunityWe are looking for a CFO who has lived inside a bank — not just a tech company with a finance function. You will own the financial model of an institution, sit on the Asset-Liability Committee, and be accountable for the financial integrity of a regulated entity in an emerging-markets payments business with complex risk characteristics. What You'll Do
- Own the financial model, budget, and capital planning for a regulated financial institution
- Serve as the institution's representative on ALCO (Asset-Liability Committee)
- Manage and report on liquidity, credit, interest rate risk, and capital adequacy
- Build and maintain relationships with banking partners, auditors, and regulators
- Establish financial controls, reporting infrastructure, and compliance with banking financial standards
- Partner with the CRO and President on risk appetite and capital allocation decisions
- Support the bank charter application process with financial modeling and regulatory submissions
- CPA or CFA designation strongly preferred
- Meaningful banking finance experience — former bank CFO, VP of Finance at a bank, or equivalent
- Hands-on experience with ALCO, interest rate risk, liquidity management, and credit risk in a banking context
- Regulatory literacy — familiarity with OCC, Client, or FDIC financial reporting requirements
- Fintech or neobank experience is a plus; banking experience is a requirement
- Director level or above; Big Four or bulge bracket background welcome if paired with real banking exposure
