QA Software Analyst

PharmaPoint
Birmingham, AL Full Time
POSTED ON 7/24/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/14/2026

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical QA Software Analyst to join our software engineering team and help ensure our products are reliable, high-performing, and free of defects before they reach our users. Working within an Agile development environment, you will collaborate closely with developers, business analysts, product owners, and stakeholders across every phase of the software development life cycle (SDLC) — from requirements gathering through release and post-deployment support.

As a QA Software Analyst, you will design and execute test plans, uncover and document defects, verify fixes, and advocate for quality throughout the organization. You will be comfortable working independently, producing clear and well-structured reports, and translating technical findings into insights that both engineering teams and business stakeholders can act on.

Responsibilities

Test Planning & Design

  • Analyze business and technical requirements to develop detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans and test cases that cover a wide range of usage scenarios.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and product owners to clarify requirements and ensure full test coverage across frontend (UI) and backend (API, database) components.
  • Prepare and maintain test data sets to validate logic, error handling, and system workflows.

Test Execution

  • Execute functional, integration, system, regression, and user acceptance testing (UAT) using both manual and automated methods.
  • Perform regression testing after software updates and bug fixes to ensure existing functionality remains intact before each release.
  • Conduct backend and data validation using SQL queries to verify data integrity across relational databases.

Defect Management & Reporting

  • Identify, isolate, reproduce, and track software defects using a bug-tracking system such as JIRA, and report them clearly to developers.
  • Verify fixes, conduct root-cause analysis, and maintain accurate records of known defects and their resolution status.
  • Document test results and produce clear, organized quality-metrics and test-coverage reports for supervisors and stakeholders.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.
  • Contribute to test automation efforts and frameworks where applicable and help identify opportunities to improve testing efficiency and coverage.
  • Advocate QA best practices across cross-functional teams and support the continuous improvement of quality standards, processes, and documentation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2–4 years of experience in software quality assurance and testing (manual and automated).
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and software testing life cycle (STLC).
  • Working knowledge of QA methodologies, testing types, and best practices.
  • Experience with defect-tracking and test-management tools such as JIRA.
  • Proficiency writing SQL queries for backend and data validation.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document defects clearly and produce easy-to-understand reports.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with test automation tools and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of, or experience in, the healthcare or pharmacy industry.
  • Knowledge of a programming or scripting language such as Java, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with API testing tools and REST concepts.
  • Knowledge and familiarity of HL7 data feeds
  • Exposure to performance testing tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based systems, DevOps environments, and containerization concepts.
  • QA certification such as ISTQB, CSTE, or CSQA.

Core Competencies

  • Attention to detail
  • Analytical thinking
  • Problem-solving
  • Clear communication
  • Collaboration
  • Organization
  • Adaptability in fast-paced environments
  • Quality advocacy
