What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor position at PH Center for Behavioral Health & Services?
At PH Center For Behavioral Health, we aren't just looking for a counselor; we are looking for a driven professional who appreciates the autonomy to initiate change. You will have the "space for self-initiation" to develop creative therapeutic interventions, lead dynamic group sessions, and proactively manage a caseload for intensive residential levels.
What You’ll Do
- Clinical Autonomy: Lead individual and group therapy sessions for clients dealing with chemical dependency and dual diagnoses.
- Proactive Case Management: Conduct self-initiated assessments and develop treatment plans that help clients "graduate" with a solid foundation for recovery.
- Crisis Response: Use your drive to provide decisive support during times of crisis and distress for individuals and families.
Requirements
- Licensure: Valid Maryland certification/license such as ADT, CSC-AD, CAC-AD, or LCADC
- Experience: A minimum of 1 year in SUD or mental health counseling is preferred, with a focus on evidence-based group therapy
- Attributes: We are looking for a self-starter who is compassionate, has excellent communication skills, and is ready to work within a small, passionate team.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field; additional certifications in addiction medicine or clinical counseling preferred.
- Proven experience in addiction counseling, mental health therapy, or behavioral health settings—preferably with home & community care or hospital experience.
- Skilled in psychotherapy techniques including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), applied behavior analysis (ABA), crisis management, and behavior management strategies.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to conduct intake assessments, patient care planning, and family counseling effectively.
- Ability to handle crisis situations with professionalism and empathy while managing multiple priorities in fast-paced environments recovery efforts.
- Possess sound judgement, professionalism, and compassion for client care.

Hours:
- Full Time : Monday - Thursday from 9:00am - 4:00pm | Friday from 9:00am - 3:00pm
- Part Time: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 9:00am - 4:00pm

- Salary varies upon licensure:
- ADT-None to little experience-$25.00 to $ 28.00 an hour
- ADT with 5 years experience up to $30.00 an hour
- CSC-AD, CAC-AD, or LCADC $30.00 to $40.00 depending on experience-Please reach out to discuss details.
Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
