Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs skilled work in maintenance of gasoline and diesel automobiles, light and heavy-duty trucks, tractors, heavy construction equipment, pumps, mowers, small engines, etc. Performs routine maintenance mechanical repairs; diagnostic and tests. Provide skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
Essential Job Functions And Other Important Duties
Formal Education: High school Diploma or equivalent. Specialized training in auto mechanics and/or vocational training in auto mechanics.
Relatable Work Experience: Three (3) years of related experience.
Training, Licenses, and Certifications: Must possess a valid Texas Commercial Class B Driver License or have the ability to obtain within 6 months.
Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is define as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed & Environmental Factors and Other Physical Requirements
Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.
Knowledge of various mechanical systems of gasoline and diesel engines.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety equipment.
Knowledge of various electrical systems of gasoline and diesel engines.
Knowledge of standard practices, equipment and tools of the automotive and equipment mechanical trade.
Knowledge of methods and techniques of welding and fabrication.
Skill of basic principles of record keeping.
Skill in utilizing a personal computer, associated software programs, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to establish and maintain professionally effective relationships with external public/vendors, internal management and non-management employees, and City and other government officials.
Ability to develop, implement, and administer goals, objectives, and procedures for providing effective and efficient services for the City.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, as well as strong time and task management skills.
Subject to sitting and standing to perform essential functions in an office and outdoor environment; may be exposed to extreme weather conditions.
Visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate office equipment
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a mechanic shop environment; walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and twist; push, and pull
Ability to safely operate assigned equipment and vehicles
Regularly scheduled for 4-day, 40-hour workweek, Monday through Thursday; overtime occasionally required.

- Performs safety inspections on all types of vehicles and equipment to ensure compliance with standards.

- Performs diagnostic test, determines the need for repairs, and recommends a course of action.
- Repairs components or replaces various parts for motors, breaks, transmissions etc.
- Other duties as required.
