Faculty Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate nursing courses based on expertise. ( 6-7.5 semester hours per semester)
- Mentor nursing majors, supporting academic progress, career readiness, and graduate school preparation.
- Participate actively in departmental and university-wide faculty committees.
- Engage in scholarly activity and professional development.
- Contribute to curriculum development and assessment efforts.
- Comply with all policies in the Employee Handbook and the Faculty Handbook.
Skills/Simulation Coordinator duties
- Assists with day-to-day operations of the skills labs and simulations (i.e. set up, breakdown, scheduling, etc)
- Assists faculty with evaluation of skills by students during check-off procedures, including maintaining skills records.
- Works with faculty to develop and update protocols for simulation.
- Participates with and assists faculty in the development, implementation, and integration of lab, simulation, and on-campus clinical activities for nursing students throughout the curriculum.
- Develops, presents, evaluates, and refines scenarios for simulation experiences, utilizing role playing, props and dialogue to create a realistic learning environment.
- Develops and implements clinical simulation to meet accreditation and NCBON standards. Attends at least one learning opportunity annually to stay current with best practice in simulation.
- Orders lab supplies in an efficient and timely manner including recommending new equipment purchases
- Monitors use and stock of supplies by keeping a detailed inventory of supplies on hand.
- Facilitates open labs for demonstrations to prospective students, for visiting school groups, and for campus special events.
- Ensures safety and maintains OSHA standards within the simulation lab; to include appropriate disposal of hazardous waste and sharps
- Keeps current with safety standards and informs the Nursing Department Chair and faculty of changes in standards.
- Provides orientation and training to faculty regarding the policies, procedures, and use of the simulation lab
- Facilitates faculty use of computerized manikins for instructing students.
- Continuously updates and refines simulation experiences based on identified curricular needs and to serve as a resource for faculty utilizing simulation in classroom/lab activities.
- Monitors and assures appropriate standards of lab cleanliness
- Maintains equipment in working order, including maintaining updates to software for manikins and other equipment
- Provides for equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement.
- Provides instructional support in the simulation lab for students and faculty to improve competencies and skills in meeting course objectives and program learning outcomes through simulation (i.e. coaching students, assisting with debriefing, grading student reflections, evaluating student performance).
- Research, develops, updates, collaborates, and refines lab and clinical scenarios for the nursing programs based on student and faculty needs and reflective of current practice standards.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree, Ph.D, Ed.D, DNP preferred, in Nursing or closely related field (preferred)
- Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate level.
- Commitment to student success and experiential learning.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines.
Prior to or within the first three years of employment, have education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to faculty assignment. This education may be demonstrated by one of the following: (A) completion of 45 contact hours of Board-approved continuing education courses; (B) completion of a certificate program in nursing education; (C) nine semester hours of graduate course work in adult learning and learning principles; (D) national certification in nursing education; (E) documentation of completion of structured, individualized development activities of at least 45 contact hours approved by the Board. Criteria for approval shall include content in the faculty role in the curriculum implementation, curricular objectives to be met and evaluated, review of strategies for identified student population, and expectations of student and faculty performance.
