What are the responsibilities and job description for the Consumer Loan Underwriter position at Peyton Resource Group?
Key Responsibilities
- Review and underwrite consumer loan and credit card applications using credit reports, income documentation, and other relevant financial data
- Assess borrower creditworthiness, ability to repay, and overall risk exposure
- Make approval, counteroffer, or decline decisions within assigned authority levels
- Ensure underwriting decisions comply with internal credit policy, regulatory requirements, and fair lending standards
- Analyze credit bureau data, income verification, debt-to-income ratios, and other risk indicators
- Document underwriting decisions clearly and accurately in underwriting systems
- Communicate with internal partners to resolve application issues or obtain additional documentation
- Identify potential fraud or misrepresentation and escalate concerns as needed
- Meet productivity, quality, and turnaround time expectations
- Participate in audits, quality reviews, and ongoing training to stay current on policy changes and regulations
Required Qualifications
- 2 years of experience underwriting consumer credit products (personal loans, credit cards, or unsecured consumer lending)
- Strong knowledge of consumer credit principles, credit scoring, and risk assessment
- Experience reviewing credit reports (e.g., FICO), income, and debt calculations
- Familiarity with consumer lending regulations (e.g., Fair Lending, ECOA, FCRA, UDAAP)
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple applications simultaneously
- Proficiency with underwriting systems and standard office software
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience underwriting across multiple consumer products
- Prior experience in a high-volume or fast-paced underwriting environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field
- Experience working in a regulated financial institution or large bank
