Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Veterinary Technician Supervisor to join our veterinary team. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing daily technician operations, supporting high-quality patient care, and ensuring excellent communication and collaboration among technicians, assistants, doctors, and hospital leadership.

New England Veterinary Center & Cancer Center in Windsor, Connecticut, is a leading specialty and oncology hospital providing advanced, life-saving care through a highly skilled and collaborative team.

The ideal candidate is a skilled veterinary technician who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has strong clinical knowledge, and is passionate about mentoring others while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Provide daily leadership, guidance, and support to veterinary technicians and assistants across multiple shifts
    • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and compassion
    • Mentor team members through coaching, education, and hands-on support
    • Assist with onboarding, training, and competency development of new employees
    • Participate in performance feedback and help identify opportunities for team growth
  • Emergency, General Practice & Specialty Patient Care
    • Support technicians in providing exceptional care for critical, hospitalized, and specialty patients
    • Ensure appropriate technician workflow during high-volume emergency periods
    • Assist with prioritizing patient care needs and maintaining efficient patient flow
    • Promote excellence in anesthesia monitoring, emergency procedures, medication administration, nursing care, and patient comfort
  • Hospital Operations
    • Collaborate closely with veterinarians, managers, and leadership to improve hospital efficiency and patient outcomes
    • Monitor compliance with medical protocols, safety procedures, and quality standards
    • Assist with maintaining appropriate staffing levels and shift coverage
    • Help identify workflow challenges and implement solutions
    • Ensure treatment areas, equipment, and supplies are maintained and ready for patient care
    • Promote accurate medical record documentation and adherence to hospital policies
  • Communication & Client Experience
    • Encourage strong communication between technicians, doctors, reception teams, and clients
    • Support technicians in providing compassionate updates and education to pet owners
    • Help create a consistent, positive client experience during stressful emergency situations
    • Serve as a resource and role model for professional communication and bedside manner
Qualifications

  • Licensed/Certified Veterinary Technician preferred
  • Minimum 3–5 years of veterinary technician experience; emergency or specialty experience strongly preferred
  • Previous supervisory, leadership, or mentoring experience needed
  • Advanced knowledge of emergency nursing, anesthesia, patient monitoring, and critical care preferred
  • Ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong commitment to patient advocacy, teamwork, and continued learning
