Duties
Veterinary technicians must have an outgoing, welcoming personality to engage with clients for history taking, scheduling, and client education about their pet's care, by phone and in person.
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing instruments, maintaining sterile fields, and monitoring patient vital signs
- Handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout procedures
- Perform laboratory tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and other diagnostic samples to aid in accurate diagnosis
- Manage animal husbandry tasks including feeding, cleaning enclosures, and maintaining cleanliness standards in kennels and treatment areas
- Support dental procedures by understanding dental terminology, assisting with pet dental procedures, under supervision
- Operate radiography equipment to take X-ray images, ensuring proper positioning
- Administer treatments such as animal catheterization, medication delivery, and wound care following veterinary protocols
- Maintain detailed medical records, update patient files with treatment notes, and communicate effectively with pet owners about care instructions
Requirements
- Prior work experience in a veterinary hospital with dogs and cats of various sizes and temperaments
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and critical care procedures
- Hands-on experience with animal restraint techniques, animal catheterization, and aseptic methods
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and diagnostic testing processes
- Ability to handle dogs confidently
- Experience working with feline patients
- Excellent animal handling skills combined with a compassionate approach to pet care and owner communication
- Prior veterinary technician experience is preferred; certification or licensing is highly desirable but not mandatory for entry-level applicants
