The position requires a candidate to have animal handling skills as well as a passion for helping animals. Candidates must have the ability to cultivate positive customer, volunteer and coworker relations through professional, courteous, and educational interactions. Practice and encourage the humane treatment of animals. Work cooperatively with all volunteers and staff members, recognizing the talent and commitment they bring to the organization.
This is a split position between our barn area and our dog area.
Mucking of stalls and fields.
Daily feeding and medicating barn buddies that can include - goats, horses, donkeys, pigs, and sheep.
Monitoring for any medical issues
Daily feeding and medicating of dogs
Daily cleaning of dog kennel and dog areas
Monitoring all dogs daily for medical needs
Walking and enrichment of dogs
Daily laundry and dishwashing, housekeeping of public areas
Customer service – interacting, instructing, and helping volunteers, adopters, and guests
Misc random tasks as needed
Workdays are Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Weekends and holidays required. Pets Alive cares for animals 365 days a year.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds routinely
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from below freezing to above 100 degrees
- Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including, but not limited to: climbing up and downstairs, lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending.
