Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Lead Residential Audio Video Technician to join our team specializing in high-end smart home integrations. This role involves leading the installation, configuration, programming, and troubleshooting of advanced residential AV, automation, and surveillance systems. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in Crestron Home, Control4, Savant, robust networking (including flat networks and VLAN segmentation), Lutron systems (RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks QSX), and surveillance platforms including IC Realtime and Digital Watchdog camera systems. You will oversee projects from pre-wire to final commissioning, mentor junior technicians, and ensure seamless, reliable performance for discerning clients in luxury residential environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on-site installations of residential audio/video systems, including multi-room distributed audio/video, home theaters, media rooms, TV mounting, equipment rack building, wiring termination, and surveillance camera systems.
- Configure, program, and commission home automation platforms, including Crestron Home, Control4, and Savant systems.
- Design, implement, and troubleshoot networking infrastructure, including flat networks, VLAN configurations, switches, PoE devices, routers, and wireless access points for optimal performance and security.
- Install, program, and integrate Lutron RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks QSX lighting and shading control systems, including centralized lighting, motorized shades, keypads, and sensors.
- Install, configure, and integrate IC Realtime, Luma, and Digital Watchdog surveillance camera systems, including NVR/DVR setup, camera placement, PoE integration, remote access configuration, and third-party control system integration.
- Perform system testing, debugging, and client training/handover, ensuring high-quality finishes and client satisfaction.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across AV, control, networking, lighting, and surveillance systems, both on-site and remotely.
- Mentor and supervise junior technicians, coordinate with project managers, and maintain detailed documentation (e.g., as-built drawings, configuration backups).
- Stay current with industry trends, certifications, and best practices in residential integration.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in residential AV, home automation, and surveillance installation, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Proven expertise in programming and configuring Crestron Home, Control4, and Savant systems.
- Advanced knowledge of networking, including VLAN setup, network segmentation, IP configuration, and troubleshooting (e.g., Pakedge, Araknis, or similar).
- Strong experience with Lutron RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks QSX, including programming, integration with third-party systems, and shading solutions.
- Hands-on experience installing and configuring IC Realtime and Digital Watchdog camera systems, including IP cameras, NVRs, analytics, and integration with control platforms.
- Relevant certifications strongly preferred (e.g., Crestron Certified, Control4 Certified, Savant Certified, Lutron RA3/QSX Certified, IC Realtime Certified, Digital Watchdog Trained, CEDIA, CTS).
- Proficiency with tools such as Crestron Toolbox, Control4 Composer, Savant RacePoint/Blueprint, Lutron software, IC Realtime tools, and Digital Watchdog software.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in high-end client homes with professionalism and discretion.
- Valid driver's license, clean background check, and ability to lift equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work on ladders/scaffolding.
- Strong communication skills for client interactions and team collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with LEAP API integrations for Lutron with Control4/Savant/Crestron.
- Knowledge of low-voltage wiring standards, rack building best practices, signal flow in AV systems, and PoE best practices for surveillance deployments.
