What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Petra Custom Builders?
Objectives and Purpose
The Estimator is able to dissect a construction project into components and calculate costs. This role requires a technically strong and detail oriented mindset to ensure the project scope is completely accounted for. The Estimator leverages software resources, historical data, trade partners, and other construction professionals in the company to assemble the most accurate, complete, and clear cost information about a proposed scope of work.
Overview & Principal Responsibilities
- Assist Senior Estimator in preparation of project estimates. Manage data of projected costs as determined by Senior Estimator.
- Coordinate bidding of subcontractors and suppliers. Take the total project scope of work and define it by trade.
- Track which plan sets have been circulated to which vendors and which vendors have returned a bid.
- Effectively communicate the status of estimates with the Senior Estimator. Provide information regarding the development and progression of estimates through completion.
- Assist in identifying scope inconsistencies with returned bids from subcontractors.
- Manage incoming information regarding updates to design documents, structural drawings, building department redlines, and architect responses.
- Translate and incorporate the subcontractor bids into the project estimate.
- Schedule trade walks with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Assist Senior Estimator in managing and achieving completion of proposals by the deadlines as updated in the weekly pipeline meetings.
- Verify the Scope, Cost Summary, and Plans are consistent. Ensure that all documents are completely prepared before the turnover to sales.
- Assist Senior Estimator in expanding the trade contractor resource database. Assist in developing new trade contractor relationships.
- Assist in tracking changes to the scope of work from the initial estimate to the final proposal. Work with Senior Estimator to break out additions and alternatives when needed.
- Assist in maintaining the filing standards of the Sharepoint database. Ensure the Estimation folder is prepared and converted to the Job Book folder at the appropriate time.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
