What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cabinetmaker position at Petra Construction Corporation?
Established in 1953, Petra Construction Corp. is a mid-sized award-winning general contracting/construction management firm located in North Haven, CT. We are seeking a Cabinetmaker for our Woodworking Shop. Duties include using various woodworking tools to cut, shape, and build items from wood or other materials to design specifications. The successful candidate will have the ability to:
- Install hardware, such as hinges, handles, catches, or drawer pulls, using hand tools and other related machinery;
- Manufacture or assemble components for plastic laminate cabinets, store fixtures, commercial or residential cabinets, or high-grade furniture;
- Verify dimensions or check the quality or fit of pieces to ensure adherence to specifications;
- Set up or operate machines, including power saws, jointers or shapers, to cut, mold, or shape woodstock or wood substitutes;
- Prepare and prep all woodwork or casework for finishing;
- Read shop drawings and, if required, be able to create cut lists;
- Follow shop drawings to ensure a quality product;
- Attach parts or subassemblies together to form completed units using standard industry methods;
- Follow written or verbal instructions;
- Work well with others;
- Work independently;
- Take initiative;
- Achieve scheduled completion dates;
- Pay attention to detail;
- Be reliable, dependable and responsible.
The successful candidate will have working knowledge of:
- Materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction of cabinets and other custom woodworking items;
- Arithmetic and geometry;
- Raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods;
- The rules of safety pertaining to working in a woodworking shop and a commitment to abiding by them;
- Finishing experience strongly desired.
And will be a:
High School graduate/GED with at least 5 years of similar woodworking experience.
A post-offer physical exam and drug screen are required.
